Floridian in New England - Oh, My!!

Well, I grew up in the northeast but have been living in FL for the last 25 years. I have never been to Vermont, New Hampshire or Maine in my 57 years on this earth!! That is all about to change on Oct 7th, as I check off one of my bucket list items.

I had a major wake up call in life when I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in May of this year. I had my prostate removed just 7 weeks ago and made a promise to myself that I would start working on my bucket list if all went well, fall in New England being the top item!! My surgery was successful and as of right now, the prognosis is very good, with no signs of it having spread.

I made my reservations late but successfully. I will be in Pike, NH from 10/7 thru 10/9, Montpelier, Vermont from 10/9 thru 10/13 and in Portland, ME from 10/13 thru 10/20. I am also a landscape photographer and my goal, while in Vermont, is to find quaint backroad drives, with a yearning to shoot old barns/pastures and any other "off the beaten path" places. I realize I may be too late to find prime foliage in the highlands so I may concentrate on the valley area if need be.

I'd LOVE any information other members would have about these goals. Most of the posts I have been reading are now concentrated on the upper reaches of the state for peak color. Am I going to be too late for even the lower elevations?

Thank you all in advance.
Carl

Thank you, on both counts!! :)
I don't have a backroad atlas but I'll see if I can find either of those two on Amazon tonight and have it for reading on the plane. CANNOT wait to arrive and see your beautiful part of the world!! Like I said, it's been a bucket list item for a LONG time. Not sure why I waited so long but it's funny how a life scare can wake up a soul!!

Keep an eye on the forum as time draws near to see how the foliage is progressing. I'm excited for you. Enjoy your time!!!

Hi Carl: Both Carol and BM are "local" and can give you very good information. I only visit, usually during foliage season. I can tell you all about some great places to visit, but not what the foliage conditions are.

I do want to congratulate you on your successful surgery. My dad had that done when he was 70 and recovered wonderfully. I am sure you see all the world with a new appreciation. Enjoy your trip and perhaps many more!

I too have at least partially relocated to FL. Where are you there. Are you able to escape the Hurricane?
