Date: October 24th, 2015

Routes traveled in Connecticut: I-91, Route 20, Route 219, Route 318, Route 181, Route 5.

Routes Traveled in Vermont: I-91, Route 5, Route 30

I did a late season foliage tour of Northern Connecticut and Southern Vermont. Despite cloudy weather all day long I did manage to find some really nice color. This was also the latest I have ever seen peak foliage in Vermont.

loafer: well I must have passed you on these roads today in CT! I just got back from 8 hours of touring. There were parts of 20 at the summit where the overlook was amazing. We spent time in Granby, it's past peak IMO.

Listen, get to Lake Waramug NOW. Peak colors all around the lake, just incredible. We took 45 north off of 202 at New Preston. Take Curtis Road on the left. You will thank me! The overlook at the mansion/estate is beyond gorgeous! We took it to the dead end. Warren is in a blazing peak today. Drove all around Lake Waramug in its entirety. The whole area around Haight Vineyards is in peak. The Norfolk town green was perfect but 20 leading up to it was past peak. We took 272 south again, past peak. Goshen was past peak. When we hit Woodsville past Mount Tom things turned around full circle! Kent should be nice as well as New Milford. I'll go back to Barkhamsted tomorrow! Also, take Avon Mountain Road to Avon and turn west on NOD Road. Wait till you see Talcott Mountain and Hublein Tower!!!

My area in Enfield is peak as is Springfield, Chickopee, Northampton and the Hadley Area. I'm planning on going up Soapstone Mountain and heading north a bit on Sunday, IF the sun comes out.

I-91 from Enfield to Northampton is peak and really pretty.

FYI Route 318 across the dam is being repaved and parking is non existent. I had to park illegally top take the reservoir shot. I don't know who planned this for peak foliage weekend, but it's pretty dumb.

thanks for the info on the dam as I won't go now. Colebrook Reservoir was beautiful at the east side today! I may stay in my area in the a.m. and go to Kent after the sun arrives here mid day. Route 341 looks to be where it's at now. Route 7 at Kent should be great. North Spectacle Pond and South Spectacle Pond at Segar Mountain Road. Central CT seems to be at full peak now and probably the shoreline, Old Saybrook, Old Lyme, etc. next weekend! Can't wait!

The CRV, Enfield, Suffield, Windsor, South Windsor, Ellington, Windsor Locks and Hartford are all peak. I'll wait for the sun before I make any travel plans. I may take half a day off Tuesday off to view the local foliage one more time before the rain hits.

I went back up to Vermont around 12pm today hoping for some sunshine. The sun came out around 3pm, a bit late for foliage shots, but I took some more from basically the same peak areas along Route 30 as yesterday. This was the last day for me for foliage in Vermont for the year.

loafer: I spent 1/2 day today enjoying the foliage when the sun arrived late morning in my area. It is on fire here. I have never seen a season so brilliant and rich in color as this one here in Central CT. The CRV as you said is gorgeous. If you have time Tuesday, try to see Avon Mountain and the Talcott Range off Nod Rod with views of Hublein Tower. It is unbelievable. Penwood State Forest in Bloomfield was the most sparkling I have ever witnessed. The back roads in West Simsbury, Avon and Canton are the best. I never made it to Kent because it is so incredible here I could not leave! I guess I will hit the shoreline next weekend and the CT River areas.

Glad you are still enjoying Vermont! :D

I took a drive south to East Rock/Soldiers And Sailors Monument in New Haven. The foliage color was at peak, with primarily Oak Tree's providing the color. This is my last foliage trip of the season.
