Tropical Storm Joaquin is a couple hundred miles east of Florida and the models can't agree on where it's going. But the consensus is that it will impact New England's weather roughly from Sunday through Tuesday (and my wife and I are gonna be there Saturday through Wednesday). Bummer! Gonna try to pray this thing away!

I will be praying along with you, even though I will be on my way home. I want it to be ok for the rest of the folks in and coming to Vermont for their foliage vacations.

It is sometimes a gamble with foliage and weather and planning trips ahead of time. It is a tad far off. Let's wait and see.

The long-range forecasts for next week from the NWS are full of "40%" and "50%" chances of rain. Not optimal.

Yeah, I'm at the point of no longer worrying about getting to see the sun during our 5-day trip...now, I just don't want to be rained on the entire time.

Rain not stopping us. Al and I are heading out to find color along 100 and over the Middlebury Gap. Waterfalls should be amazing for the rest of the week so there is a positive note to hang on to! We'll post tonight! CT

CT,

I was thinking the same thing about the waterfalls. This time of year they can be less than inspiring but, this rain will really set them off. Even a little color in the leaves and a full bore waterfall can make for a good shot.

Please be careful as there are flood warnings!

Hi everyone:

New person here and it looks like Saturday may be a dry and somewhat sunny day, especially from Killington on north. My plan is to head north on Saturday morning to wherever good weather/foliage looks to be in Vermont.

Looks like a Joaquin the park as the storm (hopefully) heads out to sea, good riddance.

It is not clear yet where it is going. Everyone should be watching the reports. It's still very far away and it's not moving much yet.

Fairly good model agreement on the storm heading out to sea south of New England at this point.

I hope that is correct, but the NHC doesn't agree with that statement, and people should not let their guard down yet.
After 36 hours, the guidance remains
very divergent. The Canadian, GFDL, HWRF, and navgem models
forecast Joaquin to turn northwestward and make landfall over the
Carolinas and mid-Atlantic states. The ECMWF continues to forecast
a slower northeastward motion taking Joaquin near Bermuda and out to
sea. The UKMET and GFS are in between these extremes showing a
generally northward motion. Given the spread and the possibility
that the 1200 UTC guidance could show additional changes, the
forecast track after 36 hours is nudged only slightly to the east at
this time. The new track lies to the east of the landfalling models,
but to the west of the GFS, UKMET, ECMWF, and the various consensus
models. Further adjustments to the track may be needed later today
depending on how the models do (or do not) change.
