Much above normal temps next days or so

We don't want a warm Fall but its still early--Normal high temps are about 74 in Killington thru Sept 8th or so, but it appears it will be in the 80's the whole time, about 10 degrees above normal--Then 8th to the 11th closer to normal--weather service doesn't go beyond that--We want at least normal low temperatures after that, and, even better some dips into the 30's between the 12th and 30th--good news is plenty of rain this past summer, no drought--Last year was one of the most beautiful Falls ever from Sept 23rd to early Oct( Rt 4,Killington,Rt 232!!,NEK!! all up thru Island Pond to New Hampshire border at Canaan, taking Rt 114 from Lyndonville--Rt 100 had some nice color Rt 25, Rt 17--it was like 2012, amazing

Forecast thru Sept 14th, record highs Sept 2 and 7th, much above normal temps thru 11th--from 11th to 14th high temps normal but low temperatures still 7 to 8 degrees above normal--We don't want that--hopefully, the normal low temps will start soon after the 14th--If not, the Fall could be delayed somewhat I would think

The long range shows above average temps every day for the entire month. Obviously not good news... but forecasts beyond 10 days are rarely accurate.

Also, I just saw a woolly bear caterpillar that was all brown. EVERYBODY PANIC!!! (I actually have no idea what that is even supposed to mean...) :)

lol--well, Killington last year had one of its best falls, a lotta red trees--but the records show Killington turned sharply colder from Sept 12th to Sept 20th, with some mornings dropping into the 30's, thus helping the color show, temps 5 to 10 degrees below normal--However, this year, at least thru Sept 16th, just the opposite is forecast--5 to 10 degrees ABOVE normal, and not even dropping below 50 in the forecast period--I think 2012 was also below normal temps and it was the best color ever that year in Killington--of course there are more variables, being sunny a lot will help--but we need these forecast temps to get down after the 16th

Interestingly, and I'm only talking about Killington here, not all of Vermont--In 2003, 2004, 2005, the colors were not great, there were not many red trees in Killington and the records show those were years with above normal temps--last two weeks in Sept temps are of course more important than the first two weeks--however, this is only Killington--2003 the colors were awesome in the NEK, (Rt 114) fair in 2004, and ok in 2005--really good years in Killington 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014 all had below normal temps with many mornings in the 30's, and 2012 and 2014 were the best years yet, not just in Killington but all over North of there, especially the Northeast Kingdom--so below normal low temps are usually, but not always, are a boon to colors, but above normal temps aren't--good news is plenty of rain over the summer for the leaves this year

Looking at the long range, I'm seeing the first signs of a slight break in this warm pattern, starting around the middle of the month. Still no really cold weather in sight at least within two weeks though.

Take heart that things can change rapidly, we've had seasons where we get 2 cold days and boom the color explodes everywhere.

Maybe the cool weather we are enjoying will come your way, only 49 degrees at 8:00am this morning, with high only about 70. Definitely a autumn mood!

Here in Minneapolis, we've had a warm but not hot, humid summer. We usually hit 90 degrees on 15 days each year. So far this year we reached 90 degrees only 4 times. Precipitation has been above normal. While we are having high temperatures in the 80s now, highs by next weekend will only be in the 60s. We may rebound into the low 70s but by mid-September our highs will only be in the low to mid-60s. Hopefully those cool temperatures will move east to Vermont.

The ash trees here are just beginning to turn yellow and the elms are starting to drop some leaves. Here and there we see some maples that are turning. I would attribute that to stressed conditions, but I'm not sure what stress they've been under. It is hard to know for sure, but it seems to me that the foliage turn here will be a little early.

I guess conditions here are not necessarily a predictor of what will happen in Vermont, but if they are, we should see good color there by October 1.

Every Single day thru the 21st, the temperatures are, and will be, above normal in Killington--not sure if I've ever seen this before, and we've been visiting Vermont since 1997--I'm calling upon the Gods to show mercy and get some of that cold air from Canada to sweep down upon the entire state--push down! push!
