The Waterbury Mess

OMG !!! The State of VT is putting a "roundabout / traffic circle" at the junction of routes US 2 and 100 west of Waterbury Village. Right now they are working at the intersection just south of the Interstate 89 exit. It's a mess. If you are traveling route 100 on a Sunday you should be okay. The crews don't work on Sunday.
If you are traveling route 100 on a week day you may want to use Stowe Street in Waterbury Village as a bypass. The village is doing sidewalk work there but it's not too bad. They might be done by Foliage Season.
If you are traveling north on route 100 from Waitsfield turn right at the second traffic light in Waterbury Village for Stowe Street. Drive this Street to the end and turn right for route 100 to Stowe.
If you are traveling south on route 100 from Stowe, you will come to a traffic light just south of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory. The next traffic light is the one for Stowe Street. Turn left there. At the end of Stowe Street turn left for route 100 south.
OMG jr.!!! :o The Morrisville Bypass will be open by October 3rd ( maybe ). This bypass will be the new route 100. The south end is no big deal. The north end will be another "roundabout" . If you want to take route 100 north, go into the roundabout and take the 3rd right. Although this roundabout is not officially open, we have already 1 accident there.
Routes US 2, between Waterbury and Bolton, and route 12 between Morrisville and Elmore are beening rebuilt and paved right now, but should be ready for leafpeeping. This should be good for you folks that like to ride route 12 between Montpelier and Morrisville. It's hard to leafpeep when you're seasick. :D
As for da foliage, the stressed trees are showing color and look great. The mountains are a dull green now. That means the leaves are shutting down. It will take a couple of weeks before they show geat colors. This is normal !
