CT great job filling in as the local weathergirl! I am still in the middle of unpacking my stuff. Yeah looks like a cold night tonight across the north tier. Cover up those sensitive plants! Probably another cool shot but not as cold in the 7-10 day period. Rest of the month looks pretty mild under West and Northwest flow. which means dry and mild but little humidity, and that kind of flow will keep away any tropical troubles. Tropical Storm Gabrielle in the Caribbean is of little concern as she will turn northerly then northeast out to sea.

The cool air came in this afternoon here in northern CT. It felt WONDERFUL. No autumn smells on its coat tails yet, but that smile on my face sure came up fast! I might need a jacket tonight and have already shut my windows! I'm sure this is a sneaky tease from Mother Nature but soon enough, the cool air will stay in place and we will all be breathing in that sweet aroma of autumn leaves!

I'm ready to say goodbye to summer!

We've had some fallish weather here in Minnesota too but the oak trees have produced a bumper crop of acorns. I think the Farmer's Almanac taught us that lots of acorns means a long cold winter, so enjoy the autumn.

I've heard that one too. I am not sure how to add acorn amounts into the weather equations, or how to allow for wooly bear stripes. Anyways found this interesting easy to read article on the acorn subject. ENJOY!!

Not just up north. Even here in Bennington they have warnings up. It's *extremely* early for us to be dealing with this stuff, will be interesting to see what it does with the color.

Scientifically, the article seems to make sense, but if true, I would have seen years with far more acorns than this year. I don't think the summer of 2012 in Minnesota was more conducive to acorn production than other years. I'm preparing for a long, cold winter. Can wait to break out the skis.

Al? Al from Minn? Is this the Al who over the years has harassed and made fun of me saying I was trying to rush spring and summer each year to get to fall? To relax and enjoy the season I'm in? Well, here you are calling Ol' Man Winter into the forum trying to BYPASS the end of summer and our favorite season here autumn????

Perhaps you need to come to Vermont with us this year which looks to be quite promising if I may say so myself, and slow yourself down a bit? Seriously, can you hold off on the "Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow" calls, at least not yet! hmmmmm, maybe you can at least polish your cross country skis in the meantime and think orange, red, gold and crimson for now. Just sayin'.....

The leaves are calling you 'Al from Minn'. So come to Vermont! Do you really have to wait till 2015?????????? We had so much fun a few years ago trolling the back roads of VT, have you forgotten already???

Your dear pal from CT, CT. :P oh, and before I forget, "Sweet Autumn Dreams" and enjoy your crop of acorns for now.

Last year we had a discussion about acorns and their ability to predict the weather for the upcoming winter. Last year we had a bumper crop of acorns here in Minnesota. We also had a very long, cold, snowy winter that we thought would never end, just like the previous year.

This fall I've noticed that acorn production was almost nil. I guess that means we will have a nice short winter. Now WXMAN76 may not agree with that forecast, but I'm sticking to it. We'll see if the acorns are better predictors than the weather people. :D
