Good Night Vermont, Good Night :(

Postby ctyanky » Sat Oct 06, 2012 4:25 pm

It's time to say goodbye to another foliage season in the great state of Vermont. At least for me. My bags are packed (so hard to zip up that suitcase physically and emotionally  ). I'm leaving after breakfast in the morning and heading back to northern Connecticut.

This was the season of seasons. Never have I witnessed such brilliancy of the foliage as Mother Nature has displayed this year. So many reds, oranges, purples and golds. A season on fire.

Yes, the weather could have been better but that did not prevent me from having the time of my life with my special foliage friends Phil, bm, Carol, mmvt and Charles (ixl). My time here was again filled with fun and adventure with places to visit, new and old.

The state of Vermont has never ceased to amaze me. The people of Vermont whom I have met, have enriched my life in so many ways. You will never meet anyone as kind and generous and down to earth as Phil. I have been blessed with his friendship. bm is my shopping buddy and I just love to tool about the back roads with her and her precious daughter.

Today as the wind was whipping the leaves off the maple in front of the inn, I am reminded that seasons are again on the cusp of change. I could just feel it. And so, I made my reservations for another 10 days to herald in yet another fall in the Great State of Vermont in 2013.

As I sit in my room on my last evening, out of the corner window, the sun is setting on a distant mountain, the blue sky is peaking through and the fall colors are shining brightly. Vermont is saying good bye to me on her own.

Ahhhh, this state gives me pause.

Sweet Autumn Dreams to all.

Hi everyone: I had a quiet and reflective and long drive home. On the way out of VT on 100b, I nearly lost it. I was somewhat meloncholy leaving my inn and doing ok, but then down the road a piece, a herd of dairy cows was close to the road under a tree full of beautiful foliage. A couple of baby cows started frolicking and RUNNING towards the fence towards me and all of a sudden I realized that I was leaving and tears welled up in my eyes. I had a hard time holding it together but I regrouped and managed to find my way to 89 and began the long journey home to face reality!

I unpacked and uppacked and sorted thru gifts, did laundry and spent most of the day Sunday adjusting to life in my own house! Back to work soon!

The good news is that the color is starting to peak in Northern CT and it truly lifted my spirits! So my weekends will continue to provide me with fun and adventure (provided no more October snow storms  ) probably until the end of October. I'm planning a trip up to VT too the end of October to restore my soul......

Carol: thank you for the ray of sunshine comment! That made me feel better!!! I hope we can get together before 2013 in Vermont!!!!! :D

Absolutely love your post. I need to have a better outlook like you! We left VT so bitter and upset that we never had a day without nonstop rain. The trip was years of planning and saving and we won't be able to come for a very, very long time again. I hope we will though. We live in Illinois and always hear that Wisconsin is "God's country" I have to disagree and replace that with Vermont <3

Ziggy: Just spent a week in MI UP. Saw lots of folks from Chicagoland up there. They are telling me is a 6 hour drive (though I think they all must drive faster than me). Have lived between MI and VT most of my life. Vermint and the rest of New England are definitely God's country. In my opinion, the UP runs the closest second!

I love Vermont, really, really love Vermont. It's everything people claim it to be and more... This beautiful state keeps beckoning our return. Like many say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, likewise that goes for how one defines the term "God's country" Traveling across America, I would say, Vermont is One of God's countries! Can't mix apples and oranges. Each state is beautiful in its own right! God Bless America!
