Sunrise spot near Rutland this weekend

Hi,

I'm coming Friday night from NYC for the weekend; this is going to be my second year visiting Vermont for the foliage. I'm going to be based in Rutland as that's where I got a good hotel deal.

I was thinking of doing the Northeast Kingdom driving tour on Saturday - I will check the forum again on Friday for las minute tips.

I wonder if there's a place you guys can recomend close to Rutland so that I can go and take pictures of the sunrise before waking everyone else up for the driving tour.

Thanks a lot.

Lefferts Pond and Chittenden Reservoir are pretty close by. I've never been to either, so take it for what it's worth. But David Middleton lists Lefferts Pond as his 3rd favorite lake in his Photographers Guide to Vermont. He lists Lake Bomoseen, also not far away, as a top sunset spot.

Yes, it doesn't look good; I'm hoping that it doesn't rain all day on Saturday. Anyway, I wanted to plan for fair weather just in case.

Afraid I have to agree with Carol: The sun will "rise" (well, we all know -- don't we" :) , that it doesn't actually "rise"), but you will probably not see it. Too bad. Looks the same here in Michigan this weekend. My weather sources are showing 50% chance of rain and 98% cloud cover on Sat. and about the same with 40% chance of rain on Sun.

If it sounds too good to be true, its probably . . . .

Finding a good sunrise setting in the Rutland area is tough because it's on the sunset side of the mountains. The colors will be the best around the Kent Pond area this weekend. The Thundering Brook Road will give you a northwest view. If you go to the pond via the access road of route 100, just south of the Jct. of route US 4, you will have an eastern view.
