We plan to visit Vermont October 15-18. What are some suggestions of best areas for color during that time? Also, any suggestions for historically interesting places to visit. ;)

Hey rrh007, my sister lives in the Normandy Area of Jax. I go down every spring to visit. Enough small talk. Foliage will be best in Southern Vermont. Bennington has some good historical sites. Where are you staying?

I am a native of Jax, having lived in the Normandy area from 1963-1976. I don't have any specific plans at this time as I usually try to see where the leaves are peaking. We have been visiting most every fall for the past 10 years. Most of our visits have been in the Central Vermont area and New Hampshire. We are flying into Manchester, NH on October 15th.

If you haven't done the Bennington area you may want to concider it. But stay around the Rutland - Killington area. With foliage at peak in southern Vermont, rooms may be hard to find. You have the Bennington Monument, Bennington Museum and the Park-McCullough Historic House. In Manchester you have Hildene, the home of Robert Todd Lincoln, and you can drive to the top of Mt. Equinox. If you do choose that area drive on Historic Route 7A. With winter on the way Mom and I are already planning our spring trip to Jax to thaw out. May have to make a trip to Shep's for some wallpaper. Things ain't been the same since the Chicken Factory Restuarant closed in Hawthorne.

Thanks for the additional information. My wife is from Hawthorne and my brother still lives there. I have eaten many times at the Chicken Factory and my brother ate 2 or 3 meals a day there. When it closed, he opened Cracker Boy's Country Cafe on the north end of town, hwy 301. It is good, too. My niece runs the restaurant.
I will check on reservations in the Rutland area. We have stayed there before.

We'll have to try it out when we got to the Waldo Flea Market.
