I traveled to the Boston area this past weekend, taking the Route 9 / Route 2 corridor there and the Mass Pike and Route 22 back. Everything looks about normal for this time of year. A few observations:
1. Color coming along nicely on Route 9, with about 20-30% color at the upper elevations west of the spine of the greens, only about 10-15% east of it.
2. Swamp maples along route 9 at or near peak with brilliant red foliage.
3. Early color in the valleys, not much there but what is there looks nice.
4. Virtually nothing along I-90.
5. Color is starting along the Route 22 corridor in eastern NY with some nice patches in the mid elevations of the Taconics, but still very early.
By the way there was a freeze/frost in this area over the weekend and another cool nice last night which should get things going.
