According to the Weather Channel, much of the mid to upper part of Vermont was under a frost/freeze warning. Will this limit the colors this year? Since every year is different, can you tell yet how the colors will be for this fall (scale of 1-10, 10 being the best). Thanks!

Its the frost's that trigger the trees to lose their chlorophyl, which gives the trees the summer green color. The underlying colors that have been there all summer are then revealed. as to what makes the colors btrighter one year vs. any ohter year, who knows. At any rate the warm summer this year and late frosts have delayed the onset of the color change. But looking out hte window there are a lot of reds oranges and yellows already mostly from non native species.
------------------
Aleks & Michiko Hunter
Old Town Farm Inn
665 Vt. It is actually the days getting shorter and less sun that triggers changes in the fall. The cool nights and mild days enhance the color change.

If route 12 between Morrisville and Montpelier is any indication I'd say we will have an "8" or "9" year. I was up in Arlene's part of the country last week and last Saturday. What a difference 6 days made in the color up there. Still didn't see any moose. May have to leave my camera to home.
Image
