a (mixed) experience

i don't want to sound ungrateful, but just wanted to share my experience.
wanting to compensate for the hurried visit of the weekend of the Oct 7th, we've been to Vermont again this tinme to the wilmington, bennington area last sunday (Oct 14th).
reached vermont late on saturday evening and hiked the molly stark state parks' mt. olga trail. the day being sunny, it was great.
the next day woke up to a coudy & foggy day was desperately hoping the weather would better itself. had a walk around the town (wilmington). nice little place with not too much commercialisation. i guess being a little away (but not too far) from all the ski resorts is good.
all the main roads (rts 9, 100 even I-91) were full of color. i wanted more of the color and got off the main roads and drove to the somerset reservoir off cr-71. though parts of the road still had good colour, the rest was just brown or barren.
next i tried boating on the harriman reservoir. the result was similar. not to mention the weather (rain, fog & cold for most of the day) made it even more disappointing.
on the way home (NJ) in the evening, stopped at bennington. then the sun comes out and THAT made up for the rest of the day. what colors, especially up from the battle monument. simply beautiful.
if only the rest of the day was as sunny. well, have to wait for another year.
see you next year vermont, may be in summer. and, thank you all (esp. suzanne, geri & tim) for all the advice. have a great winter ;-)
[This message has been edited by hari (edited 10-17-2001).]

Hi Hari,
Sorry that the weather did not co-operate for you! Regarding the barren, brown you found at Somerset and Harriman-these areas are at a relativly high elevation-leaves at higher elevations turn and drop faster than those in the valleys. It's kind of a rule of thumb when it comes to color-if the area you are in has past it's prime, either go down in elevation, or head south! Glad you had fun though!
