Re: NEK-Need Recs on Places to Visit

Hi Emk: So glad you made it to the Lewis Pond Overlook! Been 3 times and it has never disappointed! I can understand why you were concerned about getting out of there before dusk so I'm glad you found your way out. It's better to get there early afternoon as it is a LONG road in and out! Love that p...

Re: Southern Vermont 10-7-2021

Thanks for the update Kevin. We will end up in SoVT to hike and tool around the back roads over the long weekend. I love Bondville, and Magic Mountain is at a higher elevation and should be peak. I'm going to find out if they are doing their lift rides or not. We have not yet decided where in Manche...

Re: State of color

Thank you minnie. There appears to be a web of trails in the upper loops that go on endlessly as well. I'll have to look at these more closely as some are blue trails and some are black trails. I never realized they were there and now I do, thanks to you! :D I'm sure I will be on them at some point....

Re: NEK Question

Ahhhh, now that makes perfect sense! I've been up there by car many times but maybe they changed it this year. Maybe just go there and check it out because the views at the pullout at the top are magnificent! I haven't heard anything about not letting cars up the CCC road. Don't feel bad about getti...

Re: State of color

Minnie, can you tell me where you found out that there were upper trails for Robert Frost's Interpretive Trail? I can't find any information on upper trails. I'd like to explore them! Are you referring to the upland spurs of the trail? Someone mentioned on alltrails that they are called Waterfall Tr...

Re: NEK Question

Hi Emk: are you referring to 232 the forest road build by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s? They built that road by hand and it goes from route 2 to 302. If so, it is open for cars. Found this piece of info on the web........ The Civilian Conservation Corps. (CCC), a government work prog...

Re: NEK-Need Recs on Places to Visit

Hi Tom, welcome to the SOV foliage forum. If you scroll down a bit, you will see that Ed M. was up in the upper tiers of the NEK yesterday and stated that along the border the colors were full peak. I'm sure he will be on later to put up a third report. If I were you and you were going up soon, head...

Re: Visitor from California - help needed to plan foliage viewing starting from NEK then going south

Hi Prabal, thanks for the clarification. I have been to Belmont thanks to someone on this forum and it is a nice area for tooling around the back roads. I think Minnesotaman told me about Star Lake which is supposed to be nice when it is peak foliage. I almost stayed at an Airbnb in Mt. Holly but th...

Great report Ed! Victory Basin is one of my favorite drives. Maybe a moose will appear for you! You are off to Groton one of your favorite places of all for photo ops. Looking forward to your impressions. CT

Re: State of color

Minnie, thanks for the report! Sounds like a full day. I've always had luck at the mountainside behind Breadloaf and it does have a lot of reds! Also, I've been on the Robert Frost Trail 3 x's now and it is so peaceful, love the poems around every bend. If you ever go there with a bit of stress, str...

Re: Autumnal Air Mass Arrives in New England Mid Week

Yo, it was incredibly cold here last night in northern CT. I woke up to 45 degrees which is unusual for us here in late September. It's going to be colder tonight too so those colors up north will be popping like crazy! House was freezing and I guess it was not too smart to leave the windows open. I...

Re: Visitor from California - help needed to plan foliage viewing starting from NEK then going south

Prabal: I agree with Ed. Woodstock turns much later and probably even later this season. I would bet it doesn't peak until Columbus Day Weekend. We are saving Woodstock for the last part of the excursion, to hike Mt. Tom for this reason. (Hey, that rhymes!) Minnesotaman mentioned to me on a c...

Autumnal Air Mass Arrives in New England Mid Week

Hey VT foliage fanatics, perfect fall days ahead with 50s and 60s with some overnight 30s in the NEK and 40s elsewhere. Cool air arriving around Tuesday night and thereafter. This will stoke the foliage fires for sure! Lots of sunshiny days ☀️ and the loss of daytime light (gets dark around 7 now) m...

Hi Wentworth, it's been a long time since you were on the foliage forum. Are you coming up to VT this fall? Looks like a great season is upon us! If I recall, you were the webcam alert king!
