Re: Lewis Pond Overlook Access

Strangely, I'm one of the few frequent posters in this forum that has never been to the Lewis Pond Lookout. However, I know the general area well. After turning off of Route 105 onto the Lewis Pond Rd, it is about a 12 mile drive through wilderness to the lookout. If you were to walk in and out you...

Re: Lewis Pond Overlook Access

I will NOT have an SUV or high clearance vehicle of any kind, and I'm going to be traveling by myself so I'm not sure how I'd be able to overcome that aspect of things. Via search on this forum I found directions a few weeks ago and I also found some suggestions that it WAS possible to get all the w...

Lewis Pond Overlook Access

Is it possible--with reasonable effort--to reach Lewis Pond overlook in a passenger car? If not, how close can you get? I ask with the notion of hiking up there via the road with my photo gear if need be. I am both willing and able to do so as long as the hike isn't prohibitively long; I routinely u...

Re: Milky Way Photos- thanks Al!!

I spent 5 days in Jasper in August! NOt nearly enough time but the Canadian Rockies are simply amazing!! I tried to see Lake Loise but it was packed with people and cars so went to Lake Moraine instead and it was stunning. Jasper is beautiful and Spirit Island was worth the trip. I spent a total of...

Re: Milky Way Photos- thanks Al!!

I'm writing this from Canmore, AB Canada. We left Glacier National Park today and will be doing the the Banff, Lake Louise, Icefields Highway tour over the next few days. I spent a total of four weeks photographing in the Canadian Rockies in the autumns of 2014 and 2015 so I am, by definition, jeal...

Re: Fall New England Trip

Hi Kerry, my husband and I did The Sabbaday Falls off the Kanc last year. Very pretty easy hike with lovely bridges and falls. I also highly recommend stopping at The Flume, absolutely gorgeous, but do it on a weekday when it's not crowded and you can take you time. The following are some photos fr...

Re: Fall New England Trip

A question, for anyone who might be able to help: As things presently stand, when I relocate from Maine to St. Johnsbury on Sept. 30 I will very likely to do so via the Kancamagus Highway in New Hampshire between Conway and Lincoln. Does anyone familiar with the Kanc have suggestions for specific pl...

Re: Fall New England Trip

Hi CT, and thanks for the welcome! For someone who (allegedly) likes to sleep in, you're posting very early (5:30 AM). When I'm on a photo excursion, I'm pretty much at it, in the field, non-stop. If I'm not photographing--and that would only be the case when the light or weather conditions more bro...

Re: Fall New England Trip

Hi Carol. Thanks very much for the note and for the kind words re my photography. I would love to join you, thanks. I was planning on spending some time poking around the Barton area, based on the recommendations of Andy and Mr. NEK (in the circuit he linked in this thread) and there's nothing quite...

Re: Fall New England Trip

The Wheeler Mtn Rd is good from Route 5 up to the Wheeler Mtn hiking access parking area. This includes being able to access Wheeler Pond. After the hiking access the road gets a lot rougher. So you should be able to get to Wheeler Pond with no problem. Great, that should work out just fine. Thanks...

Re: Fall New England Trip

Hi Kerry, yes indeed your photos are beautiful, can't wait to see what you capture on your trip. Don't mean to overwhelm you with ideas, but I mentioned to you over on the photo forum that I would look up the road that runs runs along the boarder of N,H, & Maine. Route 113 North out of of North Con...

Re: Fall New England Trip

If the NEK is still in peak (and even if it past a bit), this loop through the middle of the NEK should hit a lot of the high points. The loop is called the "NEK Central Loop" See this post buried in the Best of Vermont Scenic Drives, etc thread - http://www.scenesofvermont.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php...

Re: Fall New England Trip

Darling Hill Road...got it. Thanks very much--that wasn't on my radar until now. I did have Burke Hollow Road, in the same general area, on my list, however, so now I'll take a look at both. I really appreciate the suggestion--I doubt I ever would have known to take a look at Darling Hill without yo...

Re: Fall New England Trip

ok Kerry--Actually St Johnsbury will probably still be at peak on Sept 30th if its a typical year--Going north on pretty Route 232 from 302 is another suggestion, and a quick hike to Owl's Head, overlooking Kettle Pond--Also, Lake Willoughby farther north is a beautiful lake, best in Vermont--Killi...
