Re: Tamarack Trees

Tim thank you for the report, and advice on timing. If I want to catch the tamaracks in prime condition, it sounds like I may be batter off waiting until next year, and going during late October. But again, thank you very much for the information and locations.

Re: Tamarack Trees

Carol, thank you for the report. Your photos of the tamaracks look great. What appeals to me about them is they turn color after everything else is done, so the their color really stands out from the rest of the landscape. I had some other obligations this past weekend, so I did not go up. But based...

Tamarack Trees

I'm interested in visiting the Northeast Kingdom to photograph tamarack (larch) trees once they have turned yellow. I'm looking for any reports from Vermonters on the tamarack color progression. I believe the first two weeks of November are usually a good time, but don't know if they too are running...

Re: SouthWest VT 10/15-17 report and slideshow

Really nice slideshow markm, I enjoyed watching it very much. You did a great job of capturing a sense of place, despite having less than ideal foliage conditions. Still plenty of interesting things to see in Vermont, even if the foliage isn't fully cooperating.

Re: My Photos from Vermont 2018

Ed: next year (after seeing your photos) I am definitely climbing Nichols Ledge. You compared the view to Owls Head and determined it was more dramatic and you liked it better. Less obstructive views? Did you go back to Quabbin? Update? CT Yes I prefer Nicholls Ledge over Owls Head for photography,...

Re: Vermont travel Oct 29 Nov 2 - Color ??

That is certainly too late for color almost anywhere in Vermont, even in a normal year. And this year we have had a lot of rain, and even worse wind that took down a lot of leaves. There might be some color at that time on Cape Cod in Massachusetts, although if the windy pattern of this week persist...

Ed: is the quote from Arnold Schwartzeneger or Arnold Kaplan??? :-) Andy the quote is what the Terminator would have said if he had read Arnold Kaplan's book and then followed his advice :D Speaking of which, I have to give a hearty endorsement to the Vermont autumn book by you and Carol, it is a t...

Glad to have been there for Jobs Pond that morning. :D
Thank you standupphotog, it certainly was a special morning, the reds at Jobs Pond were at full peak, and the light was so strong that everything seemed to glow.

Re: The Quabbin Reservoir Today with Ed McGuirk! Thank you Ed! Massachusetts' True Gem!

Hi ctyanky (at least I spelled it right), I'm glad that you enjoyed the tour around the Quabbin area. I'm happy to be able to return a favor for all the help you have been here on Scenes of Vermont. To me the Quabbin is like a little slice of Vermont that exists in Massachusetts. In fact, many peopl...

Re: My Photos from Vermont 2018

Great photos, Ed. Thanks for reminding me about Nichol's Ledge. I couldn't remember the name of it. I'd wanted to go there. Oh well, next year, I guess. Was it difficult navigating your way down from there in the dark after sunset? Oh yeah, it was a ton of fun going back down in the dark. Even with...

My Photos from Vermont 2018

I enjoy landscape photography as a hobby, and have done it for 20 years. I live in Massachusetts, but grew up in southern VT and NH in the Connecticut River Valley. My first efforts at photography were shooting autumn in Vermont, because I would stay with my parents who lived in the area. For variou...

Re: Visitor from California - help needed to time foliage viewing for Southern VT

Your days of 10/19 to 10/22 are very probably too late for peak in those areas. The foliage got a late start this year, but once it arrived it progressed faster than expected. We also have had a lot of wind and rain this fall, and are expecting the remnants of Storm Michael today, with a lot of wind...
