Re: Where Are The 30's Temperatures??

We've had at least one fairly widespread frost here in the NEK last week and are expecting another one tonight.
Color change is on schedule, if not a bit ahead. The change over the last few days has been really noticeable.

The full harvest moon is tonight. Friday the 13th too!

I'm going to try to get out for some shots.

Re: Jobs Pond - My Favorite NEK Foliage Location

Jobs is a GREAT location. Met CT and Carol there in 2016. Re: Route 114

With the Willoughby Highlands and I-91 in between Route 114 and Glover, there is really no "quick way" to get from one to the other. That route with Hinton Hill is beautiful. However, if you want a bit more adventurous route Here are a couple of options. You can use some back roads over the hills to...

Re: Continuing My Quest to Climb Vermont's Fire Towers!

Was the second one from your Vermont based magazine award for the double page inside spread? I recognize it and it is my favorite! Was it taken from the tower at Burke? This shot is looking north from the Burke tower. However it was not one of my photos published as two page spreads in Vermont Life...

Re: Continuing My Quest to Climb Vermont's Fire Towers!

CT, Unless you prefer hiking the entire mountain (via the Red Trail from the base area parking lot), the Burke tower is VERY easy to get to if you drive to the summit (only about 150 yards and 50 feet of elevation gain to get to it from the parking area). Great views from up there of all of northern...

Re: Advice to first-time VT visitor - 1 week itinerary?

I don't want to throw a huge monkey wrench into your plans, but with the fairly long drive between Montreal and Woodstock, I think you may be better served breaking that transit up into two days. Taking some time to explore a little of northern, Vermont. However, doing so may require you to stay som...

Re: Tamarack Trees

Sorry I missed this post and didn't get a reply in earlier. The Tamaracks of the NEK are starting to fade. The best time to get them here is the last week of October through the first weekend of November. They are fickle as are most leaves as once they change a strong wind will blow the needles off ...

Re: Hey Vermont foliage...time to up your game!!

Yeah, Vermont will be just fine :D the Adirondacks have A LOT of trees. However there isn't a lot of anything else. Something that makes Vermont special is the mix of agricultural lands (open land), mountains, and forest. This makes for a lot of interesting views. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1967...

Beautiful shot Ed.
I've driven by those falls so many times but never stopped for a photo. One of these days I won't be in such a rush :)

Re: NEK Report 10/8

Today (10/8) was very overcast and foggy in the NEK. Color around Saint Johnsbury is peak to slightly past peak. With the wind and rain today, the foliage for Saint J and north is probably done for. There were many trees with bare limbs and lots of leaf drop. I disagree to some extent. There are st...

Re: Driving from Boston to Stowe Tomorrow

Everything north and east of Saint Johnsbury is past peak. I disagree to some extent. There are still A LOT of leaves on the trees. Yes, the top canopy have blown off on the higher mountainsides. Which make the grand long range views a bit less filled in. However, many field side maples and "foliag...

Re: NEK Report 10/3

Yesterday from the Burke/Kirby area. Some real firecracker trees out there. As mentioned by others, Rt 114 north of Lyndonville is really coming in. There is still some green. This weekend should be excellent. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1942/44382036914_6698a29ed4_c.jpg Colorful Hillside-4013 by...

Re: October 1st Update

It was running behind but a few cold nights and the leaves changed almost overnight. There is still a lot of green out there so it should be good through this weekend and through most of next week barring strong winds or driving rain. This afternoon on Old Coach Rd in Lyndon (in the steady rain): ht...
