Re: Growth as a Photographer
Hi Al: Yes, it is available on all the "normal" ebook outlets, including Amazon (Kindle), iBooks (Apple) and Nook. It has actually replaced the First Edition, which is no longer available. We added a lot of new material, so it is worth upgrading. Carol is a fount of knowledge about Vermont, especial...

Re: I did it....I think!!
Hi "mom": Do you know what size the image is? When I clicked on it, it took a long time to load, and then was larger than my screen. The jpg format was designed more or less for this kind of thing and conventional wisdom has it that most monitors cannot really take advantage of an image that is more...

Growth as a Photographer
When fall comes around, I wander back here to see if there is any activity. For reasons way beyond the scope of this post, we do not seem to get much activity these days. But I wanted to give some credit to a couple folks here. Its hard to believe I first joined here in September of 2005. 12 years w...

Re: Common Rd Bragg Hill and Route 12 out Montpelier
Mom: ( :D ) - 12 is going to take you off to the east around Northfield, and in order to get to and see the Common Road and Bragg Hill, you are going to eventually have to head back west toward Route 100. One possible way is Cox Brook Road (turning into Moretown Mountain Road), which is a nice drive...

Re: Maple Syrup
First let me say I am totally biased with this one :D . My Cousin has a sugaring operation in the Northwest corner (Bakersfield) of Vermont. They have a large woods of hard maple (makes the best syrup) on a mountainside. Back in the day, I helped gather it by hand in buckets, with a horse-drawn sled...

Re: Prettiest Little Village in Vermont
There are a number of them, including Newfane and Townsend in the southern part, Peacham and Craftsbury Common in the NEK and the little village in Plymouth (perhaps a bit "contrived" but pretty, nonetheless) where the Calvin Cooliged homestead is, and East Arlington in the southwest. But I would ha...

Congratulations. Vermont won't go anywhere . I have a 2 1/2 month old grandson. Priorities are pretty easy here.

Re: Can we get some Vermont photography going again?
Hi Britches: I especially love the red covered bridge with the stream in the snow. One of the things I would like to have done with my own portfolio, was more winter images. They are very difficult, in my view, especially when shooting color. You really need something like open running water and/or ...

Re: Haze
Other than waiting until light changes (and I know we both travel alot and probably don't very often have that luxury) the other thing that can help is a UV filter. Filters are a mixed bag. I generally dislike them and the only one I have ever used regularly is a polarizer (and very ocassionally, a ...

Re: Peacham Peak?
Carol and I note in our book that Peacham often turns and "peaks" (whatever that means to you :) ) later than other areas. Indeed, although it is known to be the first place to turn, the entire Northeast Kingdom often has pockets of late, very nice color. I have photographed there a few times over t...

Re: Advice to first-time VT visitor - 1 week itinerary?
Utah: Thanks for the perspective. I tend to think of seeing Vermont through my own lenses (pun intended). Because I am a photographer, I am much less interested in some of the other cultural things Vermont has to offer. I have spent some time (though precious little) in Woodstock and will say that t...
