Re: What road is Maple Grove Farm E. Barnard located?
By following this forum over the years I have added many beautiful spots to my personal list of Vermont "shrines"--there is a religious character, certainly in an Emersonian sense, to everyone's annual autumn progress across the state--and I have had the pleasure of seeing the eye-popping work of so...

Re: What road is Maple Grove Farm E. Barnard located?
This morning I decided to drive some roads in Pomfret in an effort to find the Maple Grove Farm, assuming that it still existed. I had my doubts, since I have been on most of these roads ever the years, but I had never seen it (nor was I looking for it, because I did not know it was around here). Ev...

Re: Woodstock/Pomfret/Quechee
I drove all over Woodstock, Pomfret and Bridgewater this morning. Many roads in this area now are sticks and ochre, some smashes of orange. There is a pretty strong wind today, and there are a lot of leaves, and a few flurries, in the air. It is Novembrous. Stay with areas that are sheltered from di...

Re: Woodstock/Pomfret/Quechee
Yesterday I started at Jenne Farm. It was packed, as usual, with photographers. The cows were in the field where photographers usually set up, and were actually wandering between the tripods. It was bright, but mostly oranges, and fragile looking. From there I went from Woodstock to Rutland along 4,...

Re: Woodstock/Pomfret/Quechee
For all those still in VT, or coming up soon, there is some leaf drop in Woodstock/Pomfret/Quechee/Bridgewater, but the hills around here are still very good. Cloudland, Galaxy Hill, Old King's Rd, Joe Ranger Road, Webster Hill Road, Goldcoast Rd, North Bridgewater Road, Jenne Farm are all still goo...

Re: Woodstock/Pomfret/Quechee
Cloudland Road this morning. Indeed, the leaves are starting to come down here, but there is still some color to squeeze out. Rain tonight and tomorrow are likely to take things to the essentials, however. Time to examine Vermont agricultural architecture!

Re: What road is Maple Grove Farm E. Barnard located?
I think this farm is an Arnold Kaplan "photo-scenic." It is certainly a farm he photographed. If someone has his book perhaps it identifies the location.

Re: Suggestion for driving routes on Oct 17
many hills in the woodstock, pomfret, bridgewater and quechee area are still increasing in color intensity and look like they will continue to be good for at least five or six days if there is no wind.

Re: Kanc. & Mt Washington.......gasp NH
Thanks for this tip. I had been up there twice and each time it was still early. Went today and found very good color, esp reds, esp on the lower levels. The higher elevations were starting to look stripped but were still beautiful. The crowds were horrific. This is from the Lily Pond site, on the n...

Northfield VT
Californians have their fancy edgeless infinity pools that overlook the Pacific. In Vermont, or at least on Turkey HIll Road in Northfield, they have something much better:

Re: Woodstock/Pomfret/Quechee
It might last that long in the woodstock and pomfret hills. Bridgewater looks to be a bit farther along, but not much. It really is a sort of slow ripening this year.

Re: Ludlow/Andover
More than two weeks to go. Ten days ago everything was so green i feared a year when it all starts too late and then falls off before it gets good. This is looking instead like a prolonged very good year. Many many cars were pulled over on 100 just south of ludlow, where there is a pond that looks l...

Re: Woodstock/Pomfret/Quechee
In my base territory, still (!!!) early. along the ottaquechee a lot of leaf drop, but up in the hills, a lot of green, and not much leaf drop. the hill roads look like they will be very good in a few more days. it feels like a very good season ahead here.
