Today is the first official day of fall and I have a feeling it is going to be a great season! Wishing everyone a fun-filled and safe season wherever you may travel in New England and throughout our beloved Vermont! :D I've been waiting for this special season for months. Fall has held such a specia...

Re: Willoughby foliage

Hi Tim, my contractor just got back from his place in NH and said the color is coming on fast along the Kanc and Franconia Notch. As this is second hand and subjective, would you say it is comparable to what you are seeing at Willoughby and areas near Morgan?

Re: Two of My Favorite VT Foliage Festivals on Tap For This Autumn!

Hi Pats, there are some great back roads near Blueberry Lake. When you are traveling south on 100 take a left up Plunkton Road. It will take you to Blueberry Lake. The drive to the lake often has gorgeous foliage. Go to the north entrance of the lake for the best shot of the foliage (afternoon shot)...

Chester VT Town Forest 9/19 - Great dirt backroad loop/Chester Reservoir

For those of you who like to tool around the dirt back roads of Vermont, I have a nice loop for you in Southern VT, Chester. After the festival today, I had a small loop planned which turned out to be not so small. :P To my ever patient driver who listens to "don't turn there, turn here, oops turn a...

Top Ten Autumn Day in Chester, VT 9/19 - festival, backroads, VT Country Store!

Hello autumn lovers! Today was a sparkling fall day to celebrate in the town of Chester for their fall festival on the green! Made it up there in 2 hours with no traffic despite the Big E. 72 degrees under a blue bird sky with a slight breeze. ohhhhhh, how glorious it felt to attend once again, a Ve...

Re: Two of My Favorite VT Foliage Festivals on Tap For This Autumn!

Hi Pats, sorry for the late response. Just got back from Vermont, one of many day trips in September. Hiking and festivals galore! I've eaten at both of the places you mentioned. Actually, Mad Taco is my go to place and I usually eat there a couple of times when I stay in Waitsfield/Warren. Just a t...

Re: Swamp Maples Showing Bright Reds

Yeah, pretty excited to go "cruisin" as he calls it in the vette. Better yet, being on the back roads in the NW hills in CT is amazing! I planted a starter red maple tree in a pot, and the leaves turned a bright red! So excited to see the change in such a tiny plant. I hope this is the forebearer fo...

Re: Two of My Favorite VT Foliage Festivals on Tap For This Autumn!

Pats, I found the name of the restaurant in Troy. Try to get there if you can after your Jay Peak tram ride. It's very local and has delicious food. I am sure you will enjoy it. I went there with Phil (pwt) and really had a nice lunch. It will fit in great with your itin if you indeed do the tram! P...

Re: Two of My Favorite VT Foliage Festivals on Tap For This Autumn!

Hi Pats, I ate at Junipers many years ago and it was great. But I don't know how it is now, assuming it is really the same. I would recommend Miss Lyndonville Diner, Parker Pie in West Glover, Rabbit Hill Inn in Waterford, Positive Pie in Plainfield and there was a family restaurant in Troy that I a...

Re: Two of My Favorite VT Foliage Festivals on Tap For This Autumn!

Hi again! I have been on both and I would definitely say one is not better than the other. Rather, they are different. I don't know how many folks they are letting in the lifts this year as compared to last year, but the tram holds A LOT of people vs the more intimate ride on the Stowe Gondola. What...

Re: And So it Begins - Swamp Maples

I think this is the year for Swamp Maples! They are bursting in color here in northern CT due to the deluge of rains we have had this summer. Incredible reds. Not sure this is related to the upcoming foliage season for red maples but one can only hope! We are moving ahead about a week early in color...

Re: Two of My Favorite VT Foliage Festivals on Tap For This Autumn!

Tim our board owner, just posted the link for all the "on board" fall foliage festivals for 2021 if you are interested in more fall fairs. I might try to get to the Townshend Pumpkin Festival. I've been twice and it's great and very close so I can do a day trip. The back roads around there are amazi...

Thanks Tim. It appears from the list, that it's about 50/50. Half are on, half canceled. Next year should be full on board. One can only hope.....

Re: Swamp Maples Showing Bright Reds

Hey Bob, thank you! Route 199, 67 and 109 are some of my favorites. I'll try to create some kind of loop down there after we leave Lake Waramaug. This is a scouting trip for my NH forum friend who is coming here to CT next week (in his corvette I might add  ) so we can narrow down the October t...
