Re: October 24th or bust!

Maybe a bit of a drive, but Harriman State Park down in NY was hanging on pretty nicely today and should still look fine tomorrow. 7 lakes drive and the side cut overs. They closed the awesome dirt road super early this season though, kicked us out at 3PM, on only the 19th! Usually that road isn't c...

Re: October 24th or bust!

You can always rush down to NJ tomorrow   . Sparta area of the highlands was max peak, to even past peak already. Best color in over half a decade! Insane you are still green up in Bennington  ! It is a bit weird even here though in that some of the low elevation in towns here hav...

Re: Favorite VT moment/memory - let's share ours!

Probably coming around a bend in the NEK in that incredible 2012 fall and seeing this and not really believing: http://sunsetbayphotography4.zenfolio.com/img/s10/v111/p1817355386-5.jpg http://sunsetbayphotography4.zenfolio.com/img/s9/v91/p1693524113-5.jpg (oh and thinking back, hah, maybe one of th...

Re: Favorite VT moment/memory - let's share ours!

two favorite memories from my 2014 trip to get this thread going! the first is one, of many, shots I got on Common Road in Waitsfield. Getting there early in the morning requires being up and in the car and traveling up route 100. As we drove north, the sky was variable (as it often is in VT) and I...

Re: St. Johnsbury and north

looks nice! seems like even up there it was only just around almost peaking today in many places, maybe tomorrow the peak of the peak (after that it usually lasts but another 1-3 days before it's done though, still should be great at least for saturday, sunday too with luck). yeah this year is much ...

Re: St. Johnsbury and north

Kelly Stand is in the Bennington area but much higher up so it peaks earlier. I plan to drive it this weekend. Bear in mind that while Kelly Stand is a beautiful drive, it's not generally a star color location. Trees in that area tend to turn more yellow than any other color, in my experience. But ...

Re: St. Johnsbury and north

@ixl - so it's all dull/early still in the greater Bennington area? Have you tried Kelly Stand Rd? Is that still all early or dull too?

I feel that in a day or two I will be too late for NEK but was hoping to hit at least the southern part this year and get something really nice.

Re: Advice/Suggestions for Columbus Day Weekend

So, things are looking a bit fluid ahead of the weekend. Seems almost random, having green in once place and past peak elsewhere nearby (scientists would probably explain it beyond 'random,' but that's above my pay grade). Saturday night we'll stay in Mendon, and Sunday night in Burlington, so Sund...

Re: Wretched Rain Event Sat - low wind - how will leaves far

Charles: You nailed it on the head weeks ago. You are a keen observer and I follow your advice. You are there living each and every season and I had a feeling this would play out and mentioned it in another post. I don't think your observations were negative at all - you saw it and called it and I ...

Re: Brattleboro vs. White River Junction for base camp

One other thing, Snowboarder. I'll actually be staying with a relative on Long Island. Do you think using that as my base camp and doing day trips to see the folliage and scenery is doable or is it better to spend a couple nights somewhere else? Somewhere else! It's a nightmare and a half just to c...

Re: Wretched Rain Event Sat - low wind - how will leaves far

It seems to have done little to no damage though, as I was in Bennington the 5th and so no leaf drop at all, in the town center many trees were still largely green even. The ramp onto 7 north though had a max peak utterly beyond belief radioactive patch though and just a couple miles north on 7 tha...

Re: A few 2012 trip shots (WARNING: TONS of images, largeish

Beautiful colors! Thanks for posting these. I always enjoy seeing photos. So I'm confused. Were these taken in 2014 or 2012? I remember Long Pond looking like that in 2012. It was the most intense amazing color I have ever seen n my life!!!!! Carol These are from the 2012 trip. NEK was INSANE. I ha...
