Re: COUNTDOWN TO FALL IN VERMONT!!!

Well, we are halfway through August and I have 2 questions, probably aimed toward WXMan. Can you guess as to whether the timing of foliage will be normal this year...and can you ascertain how good the color will be this year? I know this is asking for the miraculous, but then, you are pretty good at...

Mark: My wife and I were visitors to VT last autumn as well. And, we love the Peacham area, too. Fantastic photography!

Re: Post one location where you found "your" peak foliage in

Our foliage epiphany occurred along Windham Hill Rd. and Hitchcock Hill Rd., roughly between Newfane and Andover. This was on Monday, Oct. 10. We had heard that southern Vermont was pretty much green. That may been true, but maybe those back-to-back 80-degree days lit the fire! This area was non-sto...

Re: I need a tree identified...

Yes, it certainly isn't native to our state...it takes a special breed to withstand the misery inflicted by Texas heat. Supposed to be 90 today, but a major cold front blasts through Monday night, and it will be welcome.

Re: I need a tree identified...

Well, there was a grouping of reddish/purple fuzzy seeds, each about the size of a pea. Don't think it was the poisonous variety because I handled it, gave it to my SIL, and neither us has anything breaking out. I'll try to hunt down a pic.

I even retrieved some of its seeds so my sister-in-law could plant some in her yard here in Texas.

I need a tree identified...

All over Vermont, along roadsides, we saw small trees with red leaves that resembled red peppers. These trees were rarely taller than 6 feet. But those leaves were fiery red and we Texans were clueless as to their identity.

Carol: I went to your website and am in total awe of your photography talent. My hobby is aviation photography...and if I can get one-tenth as good as you with my hobby, I'll be extremely satisfied! What masterful work!

Some overall impressions from our trip...

1. How blessed we were to have 4 straight sunny days! Of course, it was weird to experience 80 degree temps in October in Vermont. 2. I agree with others who've commented on the unpredictability of this year's foliage. Some traditionally good places were either past peak or almost totally green. The...

A few pix from our 2011 trip

Thanks so much for the NEK and Stowe Hollow Rd. recommendations this year! On our final day, we found south central Vermont exploding in color. The Newfane to Andover area was particularly intense. Here's a brief slideshow from our trip. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v649/tim552/Vermont%202011/?...

Thank you so much for telling us about this area! We spent about an hour on Stowe Hollow Rd. This afternoon and it knocked our socks off. Anyone with no plans should hit it on Monday!

Help me out. I can't find Bragg Hill Rd. on my map (even though I know I drove it last year!).
