Well, CT, imagine what it's like for us Vermont fans in the great state of Texas. We're still locked into summer here. We have yet to have a night-time temp in the 60's yet! When my wife and I pack for a Vermont trip, we have to get clothing out of the closet that we haven't used since March. We lea...

I've fantasized about spending a summer in Vermont...the summer temperatures would be such a change for the better than the oppressive heat we experience in Texas. Part of the fantasy is sleeping in a cabin overlooking a valley, having all the windows open with no need for an a/c, just having the su...

Just last October, my bride and I had a hairy experience somewhere near Strafford. Earlier in the day, we had ventured off on an unpaved, unnamed road that proved to be a delight, full of wonderful, canopied flaming-leaf brilliance. So we tried again. This time, the road was just as beautiful and we...

Yep, we've suffered from an extreme summer here in N. Texas...ironically, now we have flash flooding from Tropical Storm Hermine (totally unforecasted by all the computer models). At least the drought is over!

OK, two things...

Looks like there are two or three routes people use to get there...so if you will, be sure to specify the road(s) you took. And I guess it's imperative for those of us who might go to Lewis Pond this fall to have someone report in who has made the trip recently...and update us on road conditions. I'...

Gettin' ready in TX

A month from today, my wife and I fly into Boston and begin a 5-day stay in VT. We're hopeful that it's a typical year as far as timing...I had the misfortune of coming to VT in either '88 or '89 and the leaves were on the ground on Oct. 5!

Sorry, can't pick a favorite

My photography eye isn't as keen as the other posters and all the shots look wonderful to me. I started looking at them with the idea in mind of remembering my favorites, but each time I did so, another shot would supplant it. So, let's just say I loved the lighthouses, the eagles, the deer, the coa...

Our Plans

My wife and I will spend Oct. 8-11 in Vermont, using St. Johnsbury as our home away from home. Last year, we were blown away by the beauty of the Peacham area, so this year we plan to concentrate on the backroads that weave around Peacham. Hope the foliage cooperates. As I type this, Hurricane Earl ...

Tripod travel implications

My wife and I live in Texas and, of course, have to fly into Boston or Hartford to start our foliage excursions. We don't check luggage in order to save time and fees. Instead we each pack 5 days of stuff in 2 carry-on suitcases. I might could get a tripod in the carry-on, but I can't afford to lose...

RAW?

I would like to let all the photographers chime in on whether you shoot RAW when imaging Vermont's glorious scenery.

Flying up from Texas

Will arrive Oct. 7 and stay in the St. Johnsbury area. Plan to concentrate on the Peacham area but will be free to go to wherever the foliage pulls me. Head back to Boston on the 11th to fly home.

Can't believe it's less than 2 months away!

So agree. I don't get to Vermont in October often. It's happened in '82, '84, '88, '93, '97, and now, 2009. But see, it's a long way from Texas to VT. But now, my bride and I are retired and have a bit more time to pull off this trek. This year, even though we were only able to spend a Thursday thru...

How does this foliage season rank with others? Since I've seen only six of them (I live in Texas), I don't have enough data to know. But based on our trip there two weeks ago, I can't imagine this season being anywhere other than the very top.
