Re: scouting for the Fall

Hey Carol,
I don't think I'll make it to VT this year. We're in the process of moving from NJ to Maryland for a new job. So vacation days are in short supply. To make matters worse, I found out after taking this job that October is the busiest month.

Re: scouting for the Fall

Hey Carol, Just checking the SOV forum after many months of absence. Been busy this year. :D Good to see you stumbled on those roads. It really is a great area, isn't it? There are a lot of long views from many points on those roads. In Vermont, in some areas it's often tough to find breaks in the t...

Andy,
I do think the new crops make a big difference. Funny how that works.

Re: Critique

Hey Andy, Good idea for a topic. Regarding your photo, I have a lot like that where I can't put my finger on why it doesn't do it for me. A few things I can think of in your photo. Time of day. As has been mentioned, the lighting is a bit strong. Lack of clear subject. This is a concept that's not t...

Re: First Snow of the Season Has Arrived! And BRRRRRRR!!!

We were hit hard in Morris County, NJ. We got about 12 inches. But my town got power back in 48 hours. I cannot even imagine going for 9 days -- unbelievable. Amazing to see what destruction can be done from an October snow. If it came a few weeks later I'd guess it would just have been sloppy roads...

Hey Andy, just came across these. Great shots, all your research for the trip paid off. The dusk shot of the GG bridge deserves to be printed big. :D I hope you'll post more from your trip.

Trip report and photos - Craftsbury area 10/2 - 10/8

We stayed in a cottage on Albany Road in Craftsbury this year and had a great time. (Nice place and reasonable price -- vermontvacationcottage.com if you're interested.) I loved this area. It seems like you can't make a bad turn. Seemingly every road has great views to the east and west. There's a l...

Re: My Fall 2011 Album

Great shots Carol! Really enjoyed them. You made the most of your limited time in Vermont this year. What dates did you take the shots in southern VT? Curious since I'll probably be down there next year. These were my favorites: Rotated reflections Plainfield MA - very creative, my favorite Waconah ...

Re: Thank you to the board (photos from trip inside)

There are lots of good images to be had on Darling Hill Road, although there is no one obvious photographic composition in my opinion. So you have to get creative. :D It might be the prettiest road I've ever driven on. If you drive the road behind Stepping Stone Spa, there are good views of the vall...

Re: Woodstock/Killington color report

I was in Woodstock on Friday and had the same reaction. In fact, in all of my 3 years of seeing Woodstock the color has never been good. I'm guessing I've chosen bad years for the area and/or gone at the wrong times. We still really enjoyed ourselves at the Billings Farm Museum, which is fantastic.

If you're on the VT side, the Miss Lyndonville Diner (in Lyndonville of course) is really good. It gets busy but I've never waited long.

olempert, First of all, your photos are fantastic. In case you didn't realize your site is password protected but I was able to guess the password using the hint given. Second, I agree that 9/29 - 10/2 would be better, although I think there is a decent possibility that will be prior to peak for a l...

Here are some nice spots nearby: In NH: Sugar Hill Meetinghouse Crawford Notch Cannon Mountain Tram Mount Washington Cog Railway (never been but seems popular... and a bit pricey) Polly's Pancake Parlor Close enough in VT: Lake Willoughby Darling Hill Road (check out From_the_NEK's central NEK loop ...
