Re: Foliage Update

For the first time since I arrived in New England (Sept. 25), I'm seeing signs that some areas have crested. First sign of this was in one area in Crawford Notch (NH) yesterday--lots of leaf drop on one trail. Saw it again today, first in Evans Notch (did the Roost Trail and there were tons of fresh...

Re: Foliage Update

In case anyone cares about NH, I spent the early and mid-morning on the Kanc between Kancamagus Pass and Bear Notch Road...it's absolutely at peak right now, and hanging in there very nicely. I spent late morning and the rest of the day on Bear Notch Road and (primarily) Crawford Notch; both areas a...

Re: NEK - October 4 - Seeing is believing!!

Great shoes Margy. It was so awesome to spend the entire day shooting with you. Kerry..... Those hay bales are along rte 16 east out of Barton on the way to Willoughby. As mentioned on several other posts, the NEK is where it's at ! Carol My mistake...you're right, of course...Rt. 16 on the way to ...

Re: Foliage Update

I spent all of this morning and about half the afternoon in the NEK before departing for New Hampshire (where I am now). Started out at May Pond (actually got a legitimate sunrise--first and only one in five days in VT) then checked Long Pond...both are absolutely at peak right now. Ultimately slowl...

Re: NEK - October 4 - Seeing is believing!!

Nicely done. I've obviously been hanging around the area too long as I instinctively recognize a number of those spots--May Pond, Wheeler Pond, etc. I think I even recognize the field with the hay bales (on 5A, perhaps?; I shot there briefly myself this morning.

Re: Foliage Update

I was at Willoughby yesterday, both ends, and in surrounding areas. The areas off the lake are much better than the lake itself, which is still mostly yellows and greens, quite a few days to go, I thought. I concur with this completely--the trees on the slopes of Lake Willoughby are running behind ...

Thanks for this update. I plan/hope to get to this area at some point in the next couple of days.

Re: Foliage Update

Spent the day in Franconia Notch, so I have no update on VT conditions. FWIW, after 10-odd hours hiking and photographing along the Falling Waters and Cascade Brooks trails in the Notch, I returned via NH-112 through the Wild River area and NH-116 to Franconia. Colors there are very, very good...som...

Re: Foliage Update

Kerry: That color looks really good up that way. I don't think I have seen the reds and the varieties all at the same time in all of the trips I have made there. Reminds me of what I remember from back in the 70's when I lived there! You should find some good stuff. I assume you will, but DO go to ...

Re: Foliage Update

Really hard to say re Lake Willoughby, though my best guess is that, right now, it's somewhere between your first and second images. The visibility was awful while I was there. I was at the north end and I could barely see the cliffs on the south end of the lake; there was that much fog/mist. Can't ...

Re: Foliage Update

Here's the latest from today's adventures. I drove around a pretty good chunk of the NEK this morning and afternoon. The route, basically, was as follows: 114 from Lyndonville to 105 (just west of Island Pond); 105 nearly to North Stafford; 105 west to 5A (near East Charleston); 5A south to the nort...

Re: Foliage Update

Thanks for the excellent report Kerry. Sounds like Franconia Notch NH must have really exploded this past week because it was mostly green this past Sunday. From your report, it sounds like it should be really good when I drive through it this Sunday on my way to VT. I'm disappointed to hear that t...

Re: Foliage Update

Here's the latest foliage update based on my travels. I drove through Evans Notch this morning (yesterday afternoon as well). It's still very green in there...pockets of color, but overwhelmingly green--that includes Basin Pond. Of course, there's a ton of birch in the notch, which probably explains...

Re: Foliage Update

A few more thoughts on water levels, based on my experiences today. I spent the first 2/3 of the day way up north, in the Kennebec Valley of Maine. All the rivers and brooks (etc.) that I saw up there seemed to be in good shape. The back end of the day was spent in Evans Notch--much farther south (a...
