Re: Gear on the move

Another question from a stylistic/technique perspective: You are shooting a photo of a valley from one of the sides. You can only shoot from this particular location due to foliage coverage across the valley. The valley is a semi-circle so, I can shoot pre-sunrise, sunrise with sun in shot, sunrise ...

Re: Gear on the move

Al, Thank you and that was exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping to get. I don't think that is crazy at all. Honestly, I rarely end up leaving my main lenses behind. I have enough cases on the harness to carry three lenses. That allows me to carry my 11-16 (2.8f), 28-75 (2.8f) and my 70-200 (2.8...

Re: Gear on the move

I'll start off: 1. I am going to carry my 70-200mm and my wide angle. The first to pick out items in the valley that I want to isolate and the second for broad vistas. Definitely going to carry a split ND to control the light of the sunrise without losing the detail of the valley. On that note, do y...

Gear on the move

All, It is a gorgeous day and you want to wander a bit farther from the car than you might have in the past. A few scenarios present themselves. What lenses would you carry for each? What filters? Let's assume that tripod and cable release are a given but, if you do not believe that they are, mentio...

Carol,

I love the pictures with the leaves showing that green spine. So striking to have both colors be vibrant in the same leaf.

Thank you!

Re: A Vermont Sense of Adventure and Seeking the Big Picture ....

Love it and totally agree. On #1, that is a must do. And it ties in with #3. If you plan every minute of your trip (something that I tend to do, making my Vermont trips feel more like one of my days in the Army), the roads become a conveyance from spot to spot and not an experience unto themselves. ...

Re: Heat coming back

Great post, Carol! I look at it this way, if I am handed warmer weather, I am going to take what I am given and go with it. Hiking up the shaded side of a mountain with morning temps in the 30s means I am in for a finger numbing, cheek reddening cold climb. I will be packing on layers in the morning...

Re: Today in VT Part II: Route 9 from West to East: Emerging Color in the Highlands!

OK, here is a link to the most recent issue of Stratton: http://www.strattonmagazine.com/digital/current-issue/ I had to link to it because it has articles on hikes in Southern Vermont (from hardish [Bromley] to easy [West River] and in between), Skyline Drive and the history of the mountain on whic...

Re: Today in VT Part II: Route 9 from West to East: Emerging Color in the Highlands!

OK, I just opened my electronic copy of Stratton Magazine (which I highly recommend as it is free) and here are some "goings on" in SVT. Sept. 19-20: Chester Fall Craft Fair Sept. 26: Peru Fair Sept. 26 - Oct. 12: Stratton Gondola Rides Oct. 2-3: Weston Antiques Show Oct. 2-4: Manchester Fall Art an...

Re: Today in VT Part II: Route 9 from West to East: Emerging Color in the Highlands!

What kind of place are you looking for? If you are OK with a resort, Stratton still has some availability, if that would work for you, geographically? Rooms start at $135. Warning: the Columbus Day Brewfest will be going on at that time so,might be a bit of a party crowd there. http://www.stratton.c...

Re: Today in VT Part II: Route 9 from West to East: Emerging Color in the Highlands!

Ct, That is a fantastic list! My only adds would be: Stratton - the ski resort is set up like a Nordic town. There are some cute shops and restaurants there for your before/after the gondola. Jamaica - great coffee shop, walk along the West River in Jamaica State Park, follow the spur from the trail...

Re: Today in VT Part II: Route 9 from West to East: Emerging Color in the Highlands!

Janice, I full disclosure, Charles knows it far better than do I. That said, I am more than happy to help but, will defer to him if he weighs in. What are your interests? Are you looking for photographic locations or are you looking for the whole gamut? If the whole gamut, at what level of activity ...

Re: Today in VT Part II: Route 9 from West to East: Emerging Color in the Highlands!

CT, I hate missing out on seeing all of you too. I am hoping that next year my job will have a changed slightly and I will be less calendar dependent. That way I can match up to everyone else's travel schedules a bit better. Going early would also allow me to venture farther north than I have gotten...

Charles, that is great! I love your photos and I love that bakery! I got my friends to use them for their wedding cake and they did not disappoint (having eaten their food so many time, I had little concern that they would).

I cannot wait to stop in there and look for your photos on the wall.
