Oct. 9 Report - Bennington to Weston

Started yesterday morning in and around Bennington. Went to the Bennington Monument a few minutes before they officially open, and the nice gentleman offered to take me up early. He spent about 10 minutes at the top, pointing out all of the landmarks, while I kept clicking away with my camera. What ...

Say it isn't so!! Looks like I'll be following in your footsteps today, Andy, hitting the Grafton/Newfane/Weston/Ludlow areas. Thanks for your report, as it gives me a good idea of what to expect. Having never explored this area much, I guess I may end up focusing on just enjoying the ride, rather t...

CT: I, too, am looking forward to your southern report. I'm heading to Bennington for the next 3 nights, hoping to do eastern VT Saturday (Ludlow/Chester/Grafton/etc.) and western VT Sunday (Manchester/Arlington/Danby/etc.) before heading to (gasp!) western MA on Monday. I'll look forward to your re...

Great shots, Andy! I especially like the one of Craftsbury Common. I've been there a couple of times, but never got any shots like the one you posted! Looking forward to seeing more photos from your trip!

Definitely visit the Cloudland Road. From the center of town, head towards the Marsh-Billings Historical Park (take Elm Street), then bear right on River Road. The first left is Cloudland Road, and it will take you past many of the often-photographed farms in the area. If you keep going on River Roa...

Hope you find some good color in the White Mountains. The drive home through Franconia Notch today was rather disappointing. I'm glad I opted to go back into VT this morning/afternoon instead of spending the day in the Franconia area. Looked like there was a lot of leaf loss and what was there was v...

Glad you got to do this. I wanted to go up yesterday, but with the mostly cloudy skies, I decided to skip it. Maybe next year!

Sounds like the Adirondacks are about the same as northern VT from what you're saying. It's still beautiful, just not as colorful or photogenic as I've seen in years past. I forgot to mention the water in my earlier post... thanks to the recent rains, many of the streams and smaller rivers that woul...

I made a loop up through the NEK (as far north as Lake Willoughby and Barton), back down through Peacham, and then over to the Groton State Forest today. The color in the NEK was good in some spots, and showed a lot of leaf loss in others. The cloudy weather dulled the effect of the leaves that were...

I would agree with MrBumps. I was on Macks Mountain road this afternoon, and found mostly yellow color, and that was a bit sporadic. The color seemed to be in "patches" along the road, with some nice color in one area, and duller color or leaf loss in another.

MrBumps: Thank you for posting directions to the waterfall you posted the photos of. It looks like a gorgeous spot, and I hope to explore it this weekend. I found Lost Nation Road on the map, but wasn't sure whether the waterfall(s) would be easy to find, so your directions will come in handy! Looks...
