Suggestions for this Friday

Hi all, I will be making my first NEK day trip this Friday. I have had a place in Chester VT for 10 years but could never get to the NEK. I will have the wife and daughter who are more into the small towns/shops part of it so can you recommend a day trip would work for them? I am thinking Newport, I...

Re: R U Ready for Autumn in VT? 2 months from today - first day of fall!

Spent the day around Stowe today. Hiked up Hellbrooke to the top of mt Mansfield and the trees look perfect. Seeing some starts of color on the very tips of certain trees so typical of august. Looks like a good moisture and temperature year. It's coming along soon.

Re: Favorite VT moment/memory - let's share ours!

While new memories are being created for this year I would like to share one from a prior year. I don't have a picture so you will have to use your minds eye, something we don't do much anymore. I was on the fourth hole at Stratton golf club and it was late in the day. The light was failing and I kn...

Re: Wretched Rain Event Sat - low wind - how will leaves far

I am seeing a lot of that this year. I saw exactly what you are seeing in the NEK last weekend and I am seeing a lot of that in Chester today. Almost seems like some elevations are wiped out and there are bands of color elsewhere. Can't really explain it.

This coming weekend Oct 4&5 in NEK

Well, here I am asking some advice from y'all. I will be in the NEK this coming weekend, first time in foliage season and I wanted to ask if there are any must see sights. I will be around the Island Pond area. I will not be doing the driving so I won't be able to control the agenda (kind of a probl...

Re: Fall is just around the corner! A touch of autumn in the

Its probably a bit early for a prediction, but several factors are coming together. There is an el nino forming in the pacific, there has been adequate moisture in the northeast and we are supposed to get a mild polar vortex in late September. On top of that the prediction for mild hurricane season ...

Re: Oct 11-13 weekend

All great suggestions, I would include driving up 11 from Manchester to Stratton on Route 30. Go up to Stratton and take the gondola ride to the top. Returning on route 30, stop and take in the view where you can see Bromley from the road. Favorite photo spot.

This last weekend in Chester

Some informal notes from this last weekend in Chester, VT. Starting to see some reds developing on the swamp maples. Nice highlights on Route 91 between Brattleboro and the MA line. Looks like a good start to the season so far and the weather was perfect. The rain Saturday night cleared out by break...

Re: Frankenstorm!

I am in west central CT and the high wind watch says we could get to 80 mph. That's enough to do some damage. Visited a farmer friend in Newtown CT and he has removed all the plastic from his commercial greenhouses so they don't fly away. Take care y'all, this could be messy. Chain saws and the back...

If you can get over to the Myrck forest there may still be some good drives left. Central VT was past peak when I was there last weekend.

Re: rain!

I was in central VT over the weekend, and it was pretty burnt out already at the higher elevations. It would be a ride for you but the lower elevations like over by lake champlain and bennington or brattleboro are probably still nice. Burlington is a nice place to spend a rainy day though, lots to d...

There is nothing quite as fun for a guy as throwing things. Just the thought of a trebuchet launching a car or a pumpkin makes me laugh!
