Re: Misty ponds and water reflections

One other thought occurred to me, if you are going to be in that area, you might also try the West River as it passes through Jamaica State Park. Smaller slopes as back drops with some large boulders in the river can give you some composition options. Also a wonderful walking path (used to be an old...

Re: Misty ponds and water reflections

Abby, It is right (literally "right" if you are driving south) off of 7 so you should be ok. There is a stream that runs under the access road and along the path so some damage might have been possible but people also live right there and would need the access restored if they are to leave and retur...

Re: My fall foliage vacation

Unfortunately, the past peak assessment is spot on and I am in the same boat as you. I have a wedding in Manchester the same time you are looking at being in Bennington. Maybe focus on the rivers and some of Vermont's great man-made sites? And if you can accept those last two, Bennington is the righ...

Re: Updated "Photographing Scenic Vermont" PDF

Andy, Thank you for sending that to me. I found the commentary on the conditions for each year to be especially amusing I must have been traveling on a nearly an identical schedule for each of those years. I immediately had such a strong set of memories as you discussed each year's conditions. It wa...

Re: Aerial Photography

Maybe if the US sells some excess drones, that will be the way it ends up. I'll just replace the air-to-ground missles with a couple of Sony DSLRs and replace the term "vacations" in my vocabulary with "sorties"... :D

Re: My plans to photograph specific places Sep 29 - Oct 2

Congrats on having so much planned out! One comment on not taking the camera out between sunrise and sunset. One of the many things I love about VT is that the nooks and cranies of the landscape and the shade of the forest do allow me to shoot during hours I typically avoid elsewhere. Just a thought...

Re: Post Updates of Road Closures and Alternate Routes

A story for the Manchester paper on damage in the Arlington area and a brief note on Kelly Stand Road: http://www.manchesterjournal.com/headlines/ci_18796339 Looks like plans to photograph around the Green in Arlington might need to change depending on how they address damage to the covered bridge.

Re: Misty ponds and water reflections

If you are in Southern Vermont, Emerald Lake State Park can offer some interesting morning fog shots. It is a small lake surrounded by peaks and it has a small island with large old growth trees and the island can seem to emerge from the fog like some aboreal pirate ship. I have yet to get the light...

Re: Post Updates of Road Closures and Alternate Routes

Charles, Have you heard anything about 313 or River Road from Arlington to the NY border? I fish that area and visit the Green and its covered bridge each year. That area seemed really vulnerable and many of the houses were not that much elevated above the road. Thanks much and hope all in Southern ...

My experience with the West is very limited so thank you very much for posting the photos. Looks like an absolutely gorgeous area.

Re: I'm making my plans

It is open but through pretty narrow openings.

One other note, if you get a sugar craving (or really any craving for freshly baked good) while in Bennington, Crazy Russian Girls bakery is absolutely wonderful (http://www.crazyrussiangirlsbakery.biz/).

Charles,

That is great to hear. I will have to see if I can carve out some time to head up there.

Thanks.

Re: Hints of fall around southern Vermont

Charles,

Thank you very much. The dirty glass seemed to be present in every photo I have seen so thank you for verifying that. A shame but I do suppose that at least the outside would be not too easy to clean on a regular basis.

Thanks again for the insight.

Re: I'm making my plans

My experience with Southern Vermont is a fraction of what Charles' is but if I could throw in just a couple of items (not sure they qualify as "must see" though). The Old First Congregational Church in Bennington can work into some very nice shots. And if you are there, it is a short jaunt over to t...

Somewhere between naked and everything but the kitchen sink

All, I was just forced to buy a new camera bag as I have exceeded the loadout capacity of my current bag. That raised a question in my mind as to how much gear do I actually need to have at any time (and by "raised" I mean my wife asking me if all of "that" is really necessary). So, I thought I woul...
