Re: Trip with toddler in October

Good to know! The foliage "calculator" I saw showed that it should be peak in the northern areas during the time we were coming, so this information is much appreciated. I just emailed the people in Chelsea for more information. Anything specific about/in Grafton? Thanks! Also, pwt, could you help m...

Trip with toddler in October

I am planning a trip to Vermont in October with my husband and daughter (who will be 18 mo. old by then). We are trying to choose a cottage rental and I am wondering if anyone has an opinion on which area will have the best foliage. Our options for the trip are October 8th – 11th or 12th – 15th. The...

photos from my weekend

Ok, I'm going to try and post some photos we took this weekend. Hopefully they won't be too huge! I wish the sky had stayed as nice as it was the first day when we were at the Shelburne Museum! <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/susanc_72/shelburne101004.jpg" alt=" - " /> <img src="htt...

Re: The dull day - bright colors paradox

Dumb question - I thought I'd upload a couple of shots I took this weekend, but I'm not sure how. Just cutting and pasting doesn't seem to work. If anyone's interested in seeing them, maybe you could clue me in as to how to get them on here! :)

Thanks for the tips!

What a great trip we had this weekend. Decided to take the shorter Essex to Charlotte ferry ride over from NY (instead of Port Kent to Burlington) on Friday because it was so hazy I didn't think we'd have a very good view of the mountains anyway. We checked out the menu at the Starry Night Cafe BM a...

Re: opinions on my routes for this weekend?

Thanks again for the continued feedback. From your input I'm leaning toward Waitsfield over Brookfield, but I'll see what my husband wants to do. I've been to the floating bridge before - he has not been to Vermont ever!

Re: opinions on my routes for this weekend?

Thanks for the thoughts BM. I guess I missed your thread on the construction. I had planned Rt. 7 because I heard it's a very scenic drive. I still want to hit Shelburne though. I planned to go Brandon Gap when coming down from Middlebury because I have heard it's supposed to be a beautiful drive - ...

another gondola question

I'm trying to decide between the gondolas at Mt. Mansfield and Killington. I've been up Killington on the gondola several times (even back to before it was the superfast enclosed ride it is today) but I've never been to Mt. Mansfield. It will be either the 9th or the 10th that we get the chance to d...

opinions on my routes for this weekend?

I've seen some great advice/suggestions on here so I thought I'd run my tentative itinerary by everyone for thoughts: Friday: Driving from NY to Burlington (via Lake Champlain ferry) Lunch in Burlington Burlington to Shelburne (via Rt. 7) check out Shelburne Farms, Museum and covered bridge near the...

Re: Need help from a Vermonter

Would New York leaves do? We have some that have turned around here already. If you want me to do it and I don't remember to check back here in the next few days you could use the email me option.

Good luck! Sounds like fun.

Re: Lake Iroquois color?

Thanks for the information pwt. That sounds like a nice drive. I was planning on doing something similar to that when we visited Middlebury but it's nice to have someone familiar with the area give me more specific ideas of the most scenic way to go.

Lake Iroquois color?

My husband and I are planning on staying in a cottage on Lake Iroquois near Hinesburg, VT October 8th - 10th. I know it may be too early to tell, but do you think we'll still be safe for peak that far north over Columbus Day weekend? I know in general it is supposed to be a good time to visit that a...

Re: what will we see in our tripe between 26/9-2/10?

I am wondering if there is anyway you could do your trip in reverse order? Foliage peaks later in most areas of New York State (including Niagara Falls and the Fingerlakes region) than it does in Vermont. Although the Adirondacks do go earlier, the end of September still might be a bit early dependi...

Re: Need help for October trip

I agree with the idea of flying into Montreal and out of Albany. The leaves will be turning in that area of NY state later than in Vermont so it would be a pleasant drive back. Although it would probably be past peak in Burlington by the 19th, it is still beautiful to take the ferry from there acros...
