I checked the new forecast Wed afternoon...

...and it's sounding less ominous. The NWS indicates that there will be at least some sun Sat-Tues, with Tuesday being deemed "partly sunny". There are chances of rain each day, but it sounds like no complete rainout, no completely being covered with clouds each day. Wednesday is looking to be cloud...

Re: Of all things, now there is a tropical storm to deal with.

Yeah, I'm at the point of no longer worrying about getting to see the sun during our 5-day trip...now, I just don't want to be rained on the entire time.

Re: Questions about Owls Head and Kettle Pond

Okay, I've seen the forecast for next week and I'm not pleased. Rain, rain, and, uh, rain. So, one more question about Owl''s Head and Kettle Pond. Is the hike from the parking area to Owl's Head mainly on rock surfaces or is it dirt? I hope it's more rocky...don't want to turn into a mud-man making...

Re: Of all things, now there is a tropical storm to deal with.

The long-range forecasts for next week from the NWS are full of "40%" and "50%" chances of rain. Not optimal.

Of all things, now there is a tropical storm to deal with.

Tropical Storm Joaquin is a couple hundred miles east of Florida and the models can't agree on where it's going. But the consensus is that it will impact New England's weather roughly from Sunday through Tuesday (and my wife and I are gonna be there Saturday through Wednesday). Bummer! Gonna try to ...

Did you go to Owl's Head and look west to Kettle Pond? If so, how was the color? We're gonna be there Sunday or Monday and would love to be able to take a memorable photo.

Re: Foliage Report

Thanks for the encouraging words! We are super flexible...will be staying at White River Junction so should be in ideal position to get to wherever the "hot spots" are fairly quickly. I see where the nights will be nicely cool this week in VT and that should light the fuse!

Re: Foliage Report

I can't thank you guys enough for your foliage reporting. I arrive next Saturday with my wife and two other Texas couples. Since color is late this year, I'll be leaning heavily on your reports. I hate that the leaves are late, but hopeful that things change quickly for the better in the next 7 days...

Re: Foliage update

Same here. Arriving from Texas on Oct. 3 and leaving VT on Oct. 7. From the sound of things, I'll be spending a lot of time in the northern third of the state just to catch some peak or near-peak foliage.

I'm beginning to get a bit concerned...gonna be in VT Oct 3-7 and it sounds like color won't be anywhere near peak.

Re: Questions about Owls Head and Kettle Pond

Yeah, I checked on googlestreetmaps and there's an Owl's Head sign (very small) at Lanesboro Rd and 232. Bingo!
