Report from Monday October 5

I had great day of leaf peeping yesterday. Color was great in the Barnet area. I also really enjoyed the drive through the Groton National Forest along highway 242. Color was excellent. I stopped at Owl's Head and walked to the top. The color was very good there and the view from the top was outstan...

I think that the Danville area will be post peak by the weekend. I drove a number of dirt roads around Danville on Sunday. Some areas were already clearly past peak. CT says that the Appalachian Gap area is at peak now. Check back at the end of the week for more reports.

I'm at the airport in Burlington waiting for the plane to take me back to Minninsota. CT called me and said that the Appalachian Gap and the Mad River pullout are exploding with color. She also exclaimed about her Icelandic horse ride. Andy, I tried to convince her to take the Lincoln Gap drive but ...

Foliage Update

With the reunion over, most of us reunioners went our separate ways. I left Hyde Park early this morning, heading for New Hampshire. The colors along Route 15 between Wolcott and Danville were spectacular. The mountainsides were were just exploding with color so anyone traveling the area tomorrow sh...

What an interesting discussion! As much as Carol wanted to visit the nude beach, I figured her surprise would be "stripper" music, but 60s and 70s rock is fine with me. After spending time in the Smoky Mountains, I've come to appreciate Bluegrass. For the reunion I'll supply a couple of CDs that I b...

Al: are you ready for the "scary road" surprise??? CT, I've been on one lane roads in Colorado where the elevation change on the right was 1500 feet straight up and on left it was 1500 feet straight down. I can't imagine that there is any road in Vermont scarier than that. I arrive in Vermont a wee...

So I feel this obligation :D to comment on CT's poem but after Carol's reply, I was waiting for someone else to go next. Any "normal" comment seems, somehow, unworthy, but as I said, I have this obligation. Actually, I really enjoyed that poem. It was funny and only forum members can appreciate the ...

I just got back from my most recent travels and even though two weeks seems like a long way off, my next trip is to Vermont so it seems really close to me. I was happy to read that the colors look to be on schedule. Thank you for your foliage update PWT. I don't want to impose but we're all getting ...

The makers of maple syrup hang buckets on their trees in the springtime when the sap is running so I don't think you will see any maple syrup extractions when you visit. Andy wrote a blog piece about it earlier this year. Here's the link: http://www.scenesofvermont.com/blog/?p=161#comments Enjoy you...

Yes, Leaflover, this was at the end of August, from the 28th through August 31.

It is a great place to visit if the weather is halfway decent.

Thank you all for the nice comments about my photos. I think the subject had more to do with the end result than the photographer.

I've added a few more photos to the Alaska portfolio for anyone interested.

OK, I've updated my website with 15 Alaska photos. The address is www.goldimagesphoto.com/ I kind of like Charles' idea of the SOV meet and greet in Alaska. Maybe next year. We can't do it in October though because "Termination Dust" usually hits in September. Besides, the color will be gone well be...

Here are some photos of the Alaskan foliage that some of you have been waiting for. The color was incredibly brilliant. The reds and oranges are dwarf birch. The yellow bushes are willows. Most of these things are only about 2 feet tall. http://www.goldimagesphoto.com/Tundra.jpg Here's another. http...

If Alaska is an indicator...

color in Vermont this year will be great. I just returned from a vacation to Alaska and the color on the tundra in Denali National Park was spectacular. Even though most of the growth there is less than 3 ft high, the reds and golds were amazing. I will post some photos in the next couple of days. J...
