Re: Vermont Webcam Links

Killington 360 cam finally clear of fog--Zooming in, you can see some color on the hillside developing near the parking lot I just came here to post the same! 8 more days!!! I was watching the Killington summit webcam about 20 minutes after sunrise, as the sun started to burn through the clearing f...

Re: Foliage forecast update

Ed: I will come there to meet you by mid morning. I looked at so many routes to get there! If you say the north side of the reservoir is the best then that is where I will go. Where is the visitor's center and would that be a good meeting place? Also, on google maps I saw an observation tower! Is i...

Re: Early Signs of Fall..........

Here is another good resource, showing various webcams across the state of Vermont. Still lots of green on 9/25, but some hints starting to show. Mad River Glen webcam shows it barely starting, but that's up at some elevation too. It could be worse, at least we don't have 80's in the 10 day forecast...

Re: Early Signs of Fall..........

once things get rolling, how fast will they typically turn? Teaxas Aggie it depends on the weather, sunny cool days are good, rainy days are not. This year could be an unusual one. As of 4 or 5 days ago, everything was green across the whole state, and it was looking like it was going to be at leas...

Re: Foliage forecast update

Ed: the Monday and Tuesday dates would work for me, 15th and 16th, or a Sunday (14th) weather dependent. I'll map out my route. I can't do Saturdays because I work at the horse stables. Let's definitely keep this on the back burner and yes, I can walk 30 minutes (I am a hiker). I am interested in t...

Re: Foliage forecast update

ctyanky, regarding Quabbin I am retired, and can be flexible on dates as well. The color in Central Mass will still be good in the 10/12 to 10/18 time range for sure, especially if it's running a bit late. If this cold snap jump starts the color in VT, I'll most likely cancel my Killington dates and...

Re: Foliage forecast update

Hi Ed: I had to laugh when I saw you that turned on the heat. I refuse to put the heat on yet! But yes, the cold weather should move the color forward. I was a bit surprised when I woke up this morning, the transition came on so fast! BTW, If you travel to the Quabbin at all after Columbu...

Re: Foliage forecast update

This morning (9/24), I had to turn the heat on in my home in Massachusetts for the first time this year. That has to bode well for the foliage starting to turn up in Vermont. The forecast for this week has a little more rain than I would like, but the temps look seasonable to cool, so it could come ...

Re: Northeast Kingdom Destinations

Hello Ed: Phil and I are probably not going to Lewis Pond again. I've been 3 times now and could never convince him to drive there again! And I won't drive in there by myself! That being said, I would still enjoy meeting up with you somewhere if our schedules work out. As I am in Warren Oct ...

Re: Foliage forecast update

Hi Loafer! I might see you there! Charles (ixl from forum) and I are going to go on Kelly Stand and hike Grout Pond Saturday or Sunday of next weekend. Have you been to Grout Pond? It's really nice. He has a cottage on Somerset and we are going to check on the progress he has made fixing it up. Hav...

Re: Foliage forecast update

Texas_Aggie, sounds like you've done this before. If you are serious about "the classic shot" I just wanted to let you know it can get really crazy, especially on the holiday weekend. There may or may not be a lot of photographers lined up in "the spot" an hour before sunrise, but it is a possibilit...

Re: Northeast Kingdom Destinations

To PWT and From_the_NEK, thanks for the update on conditions, it's appreciated. The weather forecast does look like it will help move things along next week, hopefully it doesn't go back up into the 80's again this year.

Re: Foliage forecast update

most of my scouting will be online, and some places that my wife's cousin can scout out beforehand. We arrive late Friday Oct 5th, and will stay until midday monday. We have 4 adults and 4 kids under 4 years old, so we probably won't be hiking anywhere. Just driving back roads, and maybe a gondola r...

Re: Northeast Kingdom Destinations

Carol/Abby, thank you so much for the helpful information, I was hoping you might chime in here. Your foliage book is outstanding. It's a wonderful resource, and I highly recommend it. Last year I visited a number of NEK locations in your book, and they were great spots, it was just frustrating to ...
