Re: Foliage Update

Great report Kerry. I found the same conditions between Lyndonville, Barton, and Newark in the driving around for various places I was going yesterday. With the forecast weather conditions for the next week, The Monday-Wednesday timeframe will be the bullseye for conditions here in the NEK. It has t...

I came across this aerial video of Lewis Pond in my Facebook feed. It is from yesterday:

Re: Report of this week in the central NEK

Monday does look to be the rainy day of the next week. However, winds are forecast to be light. The bright reds will likely be peaking this weekend. However, with little wind they should stay on. As long as the rain isn't too heavy, it might actually keep the red leaves from drying out making Tuesda...

Report of this week in the central NEK

The color has been showing itself in a steady advancement this week here in the central NEK (Lyndon/St Johnsbury area). Higher elevations look to have a little more advanced color. Peak should arrive sometime next week. Tuesday (St Johnsbury): https://c7.staticflickr.com/9/8567/29338242214_9151a804e...

Re: Report from this weekend in the NEK

Geez Louise Carol (oh, that's me.... :? ). Do I have time to bring in my luggage at least? And put my stuffed moose on my bed pillow? Tim: I hope you can join Thelma and Louise on part of their journey! It would be great to meet you and I know you would have fun! Can you manage to slip aw...

Re: good places to kayak

Lewis Pond is quite a long drive from Stowe and not very big.

Closer to Stowe I would recommend Lake Elmore, the Green River Reservoir, or Waterbury Reservoir.

Re: Report from this weekend in the NEK

Great report Carol. I concur with all of it. The widespread frost last should set up near peak or peak in some areas by this coming weekend. It looks like you and CT are going to have great conditions next week. :)

Re: Recommendations for early Oct

Hi! Probably, on a hindsight it would be best to do the other way round as I saw today that there are interesting vineyards in Dunham so perhaps spending a couple of hours in the area before crossing over to VT and focusing around montgomery. In this way I can then leave Jay early on the 4th toward...

Re: Recommendations for early Oct

Thanks for the links. If it plays out as requested with the lodges, could probably do 4th in Newark, VT and 5th in Jay, unless you recommend the other way round coming from Dunham area, QC. I suppose it depends on what time of day you leave Dunham. If you leave fairly early in the morning, I can la...

Re: Recommendations for early Oct

Hi, This would be my first visit to VT. I would be in Londonderry during 5th -7th October. I have a 5 yr old kid. Please suggest the best scenic drives and light hikes. You may want to start your own thread to prevent confusion with the discussion in this thread. Also, just to clarify, are you goin...

Here are some interesting options for driving around northeastern VT. These are links to posts buried in the "THE BEST OF VERMONT; Scenic Drives, Viewpoints, Ponds, Lakes, Streams, Bridges and Buildings" Sticky thread above. NEK Central: http://www.scenesofvermont.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?...

Re: Another Warm September, Another Late Fall?

Isolated cold spots in the NEK may have a frost tomorrow morning.
There are a lot of areas of trees that are starting to hint at the colors behind the green. Things look to be right on schedule here so far.

Re: Lewis Pond Overlook Access

Strangely, I'm one of the few frequent posters in this forum that has never been to the Lewis Pond Lookout. However, I know the general area well. After turning off of Route 105 onto the Lewis Pond Rd, it is about a 12 mile drive through wilderness to the lookout. If you were to walk in and out you ...

Re: Can we get some Vermont photography going again?

Tim: what road in the NEK was late summer morning taken? This must be gorgeous in the fall. I'll be with Carol the whole first week in October, you should try to meet up with us! It is Crepeault Hill Rd on the NW side of St Johnsbury looking toward the hills of North Danville. It is a really nice r...
