My feeling is that this was a very good season here in the NEK. The reds and oranges were paticularly vivid. However, I could have done with a few more blue sky days. The constant cloudyness became a bit of a drag and limits the type of pictures you can take. I rank this year a 7 out of 10. Last yea...

The leaves are still looking very good here. Hopefully the storm that moves through on Saturday has mild wind. The color on the 6th should still be excellent.

Local Knowledge tip: If you don't have a laptop to bring with you and you are somewhere near East Burke, Bailey's and Burke (the courty store across from the gas station) has a computer with free access to the internet.

I actually feel that a few evergreens thrown into the mix provide contrast to the bright foliage which adds to the beauty.

Don't lose hope! As others have said, although sun is nice, the diffuse light of cloudy days actually makes the colors seem more brilliant. I took quite a few pictures during cloudy days last year since the light is so muted in the middle of the day. Typically pictures taken between 10:00 and 2:00 h...

I work in St Johnsbury and I'll try to keep this thread up to date with the status of the foliage. Right now St J is just coming into peak with outlying areas already at peak. A lot can happen in a week that can change the status of the leaves. There should still be good color but the crowns may hav...

Great report abby, I love the pictures 8) . I have a few similar ones of the cows and the foliage along Rt 58 from 2 years ago. The views with Jay Peak in the background are very impressive from the top of that road. On a different note, unfortunately I can't take credit for the farmer's market/yard...

Of course the color is never constant so if one area is past another area should look good...
Since we are just coming into peak, next weekend should still be excellent. Last year peak lasted for almost 3 weeks due to light winds.

pwt54's report is correct. The frost the other night really kicked the color change into high gear. Every morning on the way to work I'm amazed at how the colors are that much brighter than they were the day before. This weekend/early next week is definitely going be the arrival of the peak color. H...

The back way to Plainfield from Barre along Windywood Rd has great views to the west that include Camel's Hump. This is a very nice sunset drive. Look for the intersection with aptley named Sunset Dr for the best spots.

If you are in the NEK and want foliage and the sunrise/set: Sunrise - I would recommend Bobbin Mill Rd in Lunenburg. Excellent views to the East into the White Mtns of New Hampshire. Alternate site = Somewhere near the intersection of Kirby Mtn Rd and Ranney Hill Rd in Kirby. Sunset - The top of Bur...

This was taken in St. Johnsbury yesterday. I didn't have time to do any processing on it. At the rate the colors are coming out, this weekend will be a pretty good time to view the leaves in the NEK.
