Yes, Art Wolf really is great. I didn't know about that book-- I may check it out. Have you seen Art Wolf's travel photography tv show Travels to the Edge? I think it's on PBS. It's pretty inspirational.

I should probably get a bubble level too. Especially in Vermont I find myself standing on hillsides, surrounded by hills. I can be pretty tough to guess what "level" is! One tip I've picked up is to not always trust the brightness histogram when you're taking photos of very colorful objects. In this...

I should also add, that I agree with the previous comment about buying a DSLR. While I don't enjoy recommending spending hard-earned money, I think make the switch from a P&S to a DSLR was really important in my development. It doesn't need to be a high end camera. I use a Nikon D40 and it does ever...

Ct, I'm certainly no pro but I was in your shoes a couple years ago, so hopefully I can help a bit. Fortunately in this hobby there's no shortage of people who are willing to teach. Probably because it's so hard to make a living with photography that even very talented pros have to earn some money t...

Really great shots Abby! I've never been to Acadia but really want to go especially after seeing your album. I didn't realize the fall colors were so nice there. I think your lighthouse shots at the beginning would be real stunners if you had good golden light and a blue sky for them. I guess that's...

Thanks guys! I definitely plan on sticking around here and the photo forum during the offseason although I know it slows down quite a bit. Since Vermont isn't too far of a drive for me, I'm hoping to make a couple short photo trips during winter/spring/summer. My only Vermont experiences outside of ...

Really nice shots. I disagree with autzig about the oversaturation. I guess all our monitors are different though. I am impressed with the color there. It beats what we're getting in North Jersey this year. My favorite is the first, the Deer Lake reflection. Feels so warm. Beautiful soft reflection ...

Really beautiful set, Laura. That Autumn Lane photo really stand out to me. I think it's worthy of being published. Beautiful road shots like that are a lot harder to take than it seems!

Marilee,
Wow that is a great reflection! You could almost flip the photo upside down and not realize it. Really nice. Next year I hope to explore that western part of the state.

Regarding the picture of the day, in my humble opinion a change to the submission rules might encourage participation. The rules were that no editing at all is allowed. I understand that many people don't like the idea of "doctored" photos, and I certainly dislike most landscape photos that look unn...

RE: Peacham

Andy, These were taken around 7:30 am on a pretty cloudy morning, 10/9. On the first shot I chose a pretty warm white balance. Thought it made it look like an old postcard. :) http://lh3.ggpht.com/_wKliVnGuHvc/StvDirIZXzI/AAAAAAAAAM0/1BG9zu2pBZI/s800/DSC_6138.jpg http://lh5.ggpht.com/_wKliVnGuHvc/St...

Wow Richard, that is a lot of really good shots! My favorites are the first cow shot (love it when they stare at you like that! :) ), the 5th shot of the scraggly little tree, the fence in Burke, and my #1 favorite is the stream near the end. I was trying to shoot that same fence in Burke but didn't...

Thanks all for the nice comments. How were you able to find all these beautiful places at the right time with incredible colors? Well, I followed pwt's advice to come up the first full week of October and stay near Rt 2. We stayed at Shadow Lake in Concord. And the timing was right on the money! The...

You can get to the east side of it easily from Reservoir Rd off Rt 100. There are some grassy hills surrounding it from which you can get quite a view. It's a good spot.

RE: Peacham

Andy,
I followed your advice, parking by the fire station and walking into the field nearby, and it was great. Thanks for posting this. I took my shots in the morning. I think it worked out okay because it was pretty cloudy and foggy. Peacham was easily my favorite village that I saw.
