Killington Color - September 29

We arrived in Killington last night. The color here is just beginning although it looks very promising. Some trees are changing, others are still quite green but we certainly have color and the trees look pretty good. https://photos.smugmug.com/VERMONT-2016/i-kGDztrW/0/M/6Q2A1834-M.jpg https://photo...

Re: Recommendations for early Oct

I agree with the idea of not getting too focused on Route 100. It IS a lovely drive but the best photo spots in my opinion are on the "back roads" and small towns/villages. The "back roads" in VT are very easy to navigate with almost any car so i'd follow the guidance of NEK, Abb...

Re: Glacier- Canadian Rockies

Super nice Al!! I was in Jasper for 5 days in August - could not get into Lake Louise but did see Moraine Lake and many other beautiful sites in Jasper! Thanks for sharing your photos!! Did you make it to Spirit Island?

Re: Lewis Pond Overlook Access

I've been once - followed Phil and CT while Phil was driving. I don't remember it taking more than an hour to drive in (from the "main" road) and we made a few stops along the way :-) . What type of vehicle you need really depends on the current conditions of the road. I had a CRV when we ...

Re: Milky Way Photos- thanks Al!!

I spent 5 days in Jasper in August! NOt nearly enough time but the Canadian Rockies are simply amazing!! I tried to see Lake Loise but it was packed with people and cars so went to Lake Moraine instead and it was stunning. Jasper is beautiful and Spirit Island was worth the trip. Hope your weather g...

Re: Milky Way Photos- thanks Al!!

Hi Dean- most of my shots are from areas in the light green area - have even gotten some from the light brown. Darker is definitely better but not always possible. I think Kettle Pond was something I looked at for VT - Noyes Pond in Seyon Park also might be a great place. New moon is best as you don...

Re: Milky Way Photos- thanks Al!!

Dean- still hoping Al will see this and contribute.... but I can share some of what he showed us (his website also has some useful tips!) first, you need a tripod :-) A wide angle, fast lens (2.8 or better) is important. I use my Canon 16-35 and also recently picked up a Rokinin 14 mm that gets rave...

Re: Accuweather Forecast For September

Killington especially needs COLD COLD weather this Fall. They are hosting the Women's World Cup ski race at the end of November- this is a HUGE event for an eastern ski area especially so early in the season and they will need to blow a lot of snow to make it a success.

Milky Way Photos- thanks Al!!

Last year, Al very generously offered a Milky Way photo tutorial! He spent a few hours showing us how to capture this most magical sky. Since then, I have tried to make some of these photos both close to home and when visiting Cape Cod. I am still working on it but am pleased with what I've captured...

Re: OFF TOPIC (Sort of): Heady Topper Beer, Chocolates and VT Wines

Heady Topper has a fairly small distribution area and you can see where to buy on their website: http://alchemistbeer.com/buy/ - We usually pick some up for a few friends and it requires really good timing as many of the stores that get Heady sell out very quickly and most limit the amount you can b...

Re: Hurricane Irene Five Years Ago Today

The impact of Irene on VT was unbelievable and I can still remember wondering (and selfishly worrying) what the state would look like for foliage season. The reconstruction of roads and bridges was simply amazing - if I recall correctly, 107 was the last road to be rebuilt and that took quite some t...
