Andy: thanks for the clarification on this area that you enjoyed as well. It's been a few years since I was there and now it is all coming back to me! Such a special place in my heart this Peacham town! I'll check out the pics and narrative on the photography forum - some of my fondest memories are ...

Andy: repeating your blurb on this great road in Peacham!

"If you are up for some more driving, Take the Mack Mountain Road (maybe out of your way, as it is further West) back to the North West to Route 2 (pwt suggested this road to me last year and it was worth the drive). Parts of it are gravel, but it is good road and you'll have no trouble on it w...

Courtmel: I will certainly go to the Rochester Country Store and have the corn chowder. My list is getting so long with things to do - eat, shop and drive, drive, drive! I have to make it back in time for 6:00 dinner at the farm! My Dad was a dairy farmer in his early days and I was brought up vacat...

Service road #32 and beyond.

PWT: thanks for this added bit of info. I saw the word Mooselamoo on the map. I think we may be driving from dawn to dusk to get all this in! Going to Vermont a couple of times every autumn has certainly broadened my enjoyment of different aspects of the foliage season. Having great foliage is defin...

You have picked two amazing towns that are on my top ten list . Peacham is gorgeous. Stayed there at a B&B in 2003 up a long, long dirt road past the cemetary - walk into the cemetary and view the hills beyond - a must for picture taking. The country store in Peacham is great. Good sandwiches an...

Thanks so much bm. I just can't wait to get to Vermont. This spectacular weather better hold up! I love trying new towns, roads and loops, and different parts of Vermont each time I travel. The Lincoln area will be very new to me and I have highlighted the map as you have suggested. I've never been ...

bm: I looked on my NCartographic map. I found the Natural Turnpike which I previously overlooked. One more question if you don't mind. Is the Upper Notch Rd. that comes out of South Lincoln and hooks up to 116 S a nice detour to East Middlebury as well? Then I can continue on 53 to see Lake Dunmore....

VT Experts: Please advise on North/South road between gaps!

I would like to venture onto a new road off the Appalachian Gap that runs North and South. It starts out in Jerusalem off of 17 and goes through Ripton and ends at Goshen. On my Northern Cartographic it looks like it changes names frequently from Lincoln Rd. to Lincoln Goshen Rd. to Goshen Ripton Rd...

Groton State Forest

Andy: thanks for bringing this great spot back to the forum! It is quite worthy of mention. We traveled through here on our way home from another Vermont trip and it was gorgeous. I wish I had made more time for this area because we didn't have time to go to Owl's Head either. We hit the area when t...

My favorite map

Hi Susan: My Northern Cartographic "Vermont Road Atlas & Guide" is my Bible. It was 20 bucks a couple of years ago. Before you travel, you need to get familiar with it to negotiate the transition between pages, but it is worth it. I never got lost using it when I was in the far reaches...

Autumn Leaf: some good diners!

Autumn Leaf: Not sure if you are a diner kind of gal, but I would like to recommend two fabulous diners that I have gone to and would return to again and again. The first is "The Farmer's Diner" is Quechee which is located right in the village where the craft stores are. (I think it was ev...

Everyone: What a day to wake up to in New England! The air is clear and crisp and the sky is the bluest of blue. The earthy aroma of fall leaves is here and I am so excited to be heading to Vermont soon! This is what makes me so happy to be living in New England and the anticipation of autumn is get...
