We had four of them explode at our feet one day, scared the crap out of me. My heart is still racing thinking about it.

My experience in Vermont

What can I say as a second home owner in Vermont? Lots actually, but maybe I will write a book someday. We bought our little cabin in 2004 and have enjoyed it for fishing, skiing, hiking and getting to know the natives. There is a saying in Vermont that you aren't a native until the last person who ...

Hi all

CT, I was in that bookstore in Chester last weekend! Bought a nice picture book on Ireland for 5 bucks. In answer to Carol's question, we have an SUV and our cabin is on a dirt road in Chester, so we are used to ruts, especially in mud season. Look forward to meeting everyone.

Joining up

CT, my wife and I may want to join the group on the 3rd, where and what time are you meeting? We would come up to our cabin in Chester on the night of the 2nd and then come out that morning. I did not see the exact location and time, so wanted to check if we could join the group for the day. Was in ...

South Central Report for October 10-13

Wow that was a fast season! Arrived on Thursday and the Brattleboro area was approaching peak. Went on to Stratton and Bromley and the peaks were all blown off and brown, but the middle levels were awesome. Played golf on Stratton on Sunday and the sugar maples were on fire at sunset. The guy at the...

Stratton is about 20 minutes south of Ludlow. It is in the towns of Bondville and Winhall. The mountain has a nice village that has food and a gondola ride tot the top. Skiing isn't bad either.

There may be an effect of GW, but this year we have had plenty of rain (46 inches in Chester, VT) and a hard frost. It may break out a little later, but with any luck it will be a long season like last year. The Chester Street Fair was great this year!

In Vermont this weekend

Was in South Central Vermont this weekend. Weather was unbelievable and there is some color breaking out. Hard Frost on Friday night (the farmer behind my cabin said it got to 26!) The Swamp (Red) maples are lighting up on the hills around Ludlow and Stratton. Going back next week and the 15 day for...

The smell of fall

CT, you really have described one of the best signs of fall. The smell of the earth, and the leaves and especially the ferns are some of the best things about it. PWT, I worked on a dairy farm when I was younger and the smell of manure actually makes me wish for younger days. People think I am nuts,...

Re: Bad Info

Cindy if you go that way, route 7 goes through some of the nicest parts of western VT/MA and CT. You will pass through Danby VT, Manchester VT, Williamstown MA, Sturbridge MA, Canaan CT, and Kent CT. Kent Falls State Park is at peak now. From Danbury CT you could take 84 West to 684 south to the Hut...

Re: Bad Info

Cindy, if you can make it to southwestern Vermont, you will see some color. It may take a little while, but if you could get as far south as Manchester there are some excellent shops and outlets as well. There is also horse back riding in Danby that we did a few years back which is fun no matter the...

Re: Phil's Phrantic Pholiage Tour

pwt, thanks for the tour you made near me. Sunday I went the back roads from Chester to the top of Okemo, climbed the fire tower and looked out. What a view! We then took 123 over to Ascutney and the toll road and hiked out to the hang glider launch. Bingo again, awesome views! I will follow your ro...
