Woodstock/Quechee
I just noticed that I forgot to mention in the directions that I posted above, that if you want to see the Quechee Gorge and drive through that bit of congestion, you can still take the River Road to Woodstock. You just turn right at the yellow blinking light (Waterman Hill Road-about 1/2 mile past ...

Woodstock/Quechee
If you are up for a bit of a wander, I have a few wonderful back roads that will take you (eventually) to Woodstock. I spend half of the year in Quechee, so don't be put off by my So. California address. Hanover is a lovely area, in its own right. In the Hanover area, Route 5 North, to Thetford, is ...

White house where pumpkin pies were sold
I could give it a try, if you post the pictures. Of course, they could have purchased some colored paint in the intervening years...

Your Fall Photos
I'm so sorry that your first trip to Vermont wasn't all that you had hoped for. I really enjoyed your photographs, even if they weren't of "Peak" foliage. They are much better than mine that were taken when the color was at it's height; the photographer makes a lot of difference! Thank you for shari...

What about the Connecticut River Valley?
I see that Shush is planning to drive from Peacham to Quechee on Route 91. That should take Shush along the Connecticut River Valley, which usually also has later color. I drove it a week ago, and it was still mostly green (along Route 5). Does anyone know what that looks like now?

Thanks for your report
I'm just another observer/Vermont lover here. I enjoy reading about everyone's plans for their trips on this forum, but even more, I love to hear about all of the wonderful experiences that people had while visiting Vermont. Thank you for posting yours. I was laughing (with empathy- been there/done ...

Woodstock
TK, please check your message box; I sent you some suggestions for your trip.
p.s. Oh, and I meant to say, if you wear slacks and a nice sweater, you won't feel "underdressed" (not overdressed---that would be silly!).

Cloudland Road and cows
Andy, I had never heard of those Randall Lineback cows before. Very interesting! I am going to have to keep my eyes open for them. I wonder if I've ever seen them, yet never noticed their specific markings. There is another kind of cow that is truly belted all of the way around the middle: the Belte...

Hi Abby, I didn't, but my friend did. She, however, has an old digital camera, and does not have the attachment to download the photos from it onto a computer. Neither of us is knowledgeable about these things, but I will get some technical advice from my kids or try to convince her to have them put...

A surprise in Brookfield
The colors in Central Vermont and New Hampshire have been absolutely spectacular for the last week! We drove to Brookfield to experience the floating bridge on Saturday. I was surprised that it didn't seem to "bob" at all, but my biggest surprise was on Ridge Road...where we encountered a large fish...

Re: A few of Vermont's highlights
Regarding directions to Simon Pearce: which way you turn off Route 4,of course, depends upon which way you are headed on Route 4, as you turn onto the Quechee/West Hartford (or is it Hartland)Road...which also goes by the name of Waterman Hill Road, at that point. The intersection is about 1 1/2 mil...

Re: Dining Suggestions
In the Woodstock area, you'd probably have more luck finding family dining closer to Quechee. Firestones( on Route 4,at the blinking light in Quechee)is a nice, but not fancy, restaurant. It would be a good choice for a civilized dinner (not "fast food"). They make an excellent flatbread (Vermont st...
