Re: Foliage forecast update

It's finally cooling down here in Enfield and there are actually quite a few tree's changing color already. We should have a lot more by this time next week. The forecast is calling for temperatures to be below normal for Sunday-Tuesday. I'm planning on going to Kelly Stand Road and the Mount Snow a...

Re: Foliage forecast update

It's 89F here in Enfield at 4pm on 9/16, just 6 days away from fall. It really needs to start cooling down, though it's nice to see the sunshine after a week of grey skies. I drove to Burr Pond to go swimming, which is the latest I can recall doing that. It's primarily green along Routes 318, 44 and...

Re: It's September 1st! The First Day of Meteorological Fall!

At last we are getting a cool down to below normal temperatures this weekend. The cold overnight lows this weekend should get the foliage going in the right direction. I see that next week is forecasted to be in the middle 80's here again in Northern Connecticut  I'm really tired of this hot w...

Re: Off Topic- Storm

Here in Enfield we came through the storm without losing power as about 60% of our trees are already bare. Not much damage here or flooding even after 10" of rain in one week. Foliage around here is done for the year.

Re: Connecticut Foliage October 2017

I drove down to Gillette Castle today hoping to find some good foliage color. I must say the entire trip south and back was pretty devoid of fall color. The Connecticut River around Windsor has mostly green trees as does a good part of the Hartford area close to 1-91. Heading southwest on Route 9 I ...

Re: Connecticut Foliage October 2017

Im going to Worcester with my dad on Friday. While that's not Quabbin, it will give me an idea of what the condition of the foliage is like along I-90. I was up to Palmer about 2 weeks ago and a lot of trees where already bare. There are a lot of Oak Trees in the Quabbin reservoir region and they ar...

Re: Connecticut Foliage October 2017

Peak fall foliage is done here in Enfield and the surrounding towns. We had peak color yesterday, but the combination of high winds and 3-5" of heavy rain has stripped away about 50% of the foliage. What's left looks looks drab and weather beaten. I may head south a bit this weekend, but I migh...

Re: Connecticut Foliage October 2017

Im not so sure that next weekend is going to be so good for foliage viewing around here. The high wind/rain has removed about 40% of the foliage in Enfield and more rain is predicted over the next two days. I'm thinking about taking my annual trip to the CT shorline, but I don't know if the foliage ...

Re: Connecticut Foliage October 2017

I spent one more day locally today, taking in the fall color before the rain and wind wreck it over the next few days: Barkhamstead: https://s1.postimg.org/61i2pjdfgf/Barkhamstead.jpg Barkhamstead: https://s1.postimg.org/52ri4pdtwf/image.jpg Mountain Road: https://s1.postimg.org/18vhzxbm1b/Mtn_Road....

Re: Connecticut Foliage October 2017

I did the foliage loop yesterday in Northwestern Connecticut with my son. We traveled 1-91, Route 20, Route 318, Route 44, Route 8, Route 4, West Cornwall Road, Riga Road, Mt Washington Road, Route 41 and Route 187. The best foliage was to be found in Canaan, Norfolk and Winchester. Mt Washington/Ri...

Re: Connecticut Foliage October 2017

I really thought there would be some good foliage color to be found in Northeastern Connecticut, but it was just as bad as Southern Vermont and Massachusetts. Honestly I would not bother going there for foliage color this year. I used to live in Coventry and my son volunteered at the Hale Homestead,...

Re: Connecticut Foliage October 2017

I took another drive this morning up to Northeast Connecticut looking for some decent fall foliage color. Routes traveled where 190 East to Soapstone Mountain and then south from there to I-84, East to Mashpaug Pond. From there I went East on 171 to 44 and then west to Coventry, Bolton, Ellington, S...

Connecticut Foliage October 2017

I figured I would start a thread for posting of foliage conditions in Connecticut for 2017. I did a drive today around North Central and Northeastern Connecticut. The foliage color was fairly poor with a lot of brown color, or trees going from green to bare. I drove on Route 190 east to Route 32 Nor...

Re: Where is best after this Tuesday?

Your best bests are going to be the lower elevation areas in Vermont below about 1,500', above that the foliage will most likely be bare or past peak. A rather strong cold front in due to past through New England overnight with rain showers and winds from 25-40mph, which will strip away quite a lot ...

Re: Mt Greylock - Mohawk Trail 10/13/2017 - Poor Foliage Color

Loafer: thanks for this post. I'm sorry that you had a disappointing drive with your Dad. As I was leaving VT Monday, I took 7 down into CT and the NW hills were early in color and the trees were lush and healthy. Canaan Mtn. all the way from Canaan (route 44 and 7 intersection) to Norfolk on 44 lo...
