Re: Connecticut Foliage October 2017

I really thought there would be some good foliage color to be found in Northeastern Connecticut, but it was just as bad as Southern Vermont and Massachusetts. Honestly I would not bother going there for foliage color this year. I used to live in Coventry and my son volunteered at the Hale Homestead,...

Re: Connecticut Foliage October 2017

I took another drive this morning up to Northeast Connecticut looking for some decent fall foliage color. Routes traveled where 190 East to Soapstone Mountain and then south from there to I-84, East to Mashpaug Pond. From there I went East on 171 to 44 and then west to Coventry, Bolton, Ellington, S...

Connecticut Foliage October 2017

I figured I would start a thread for posting of foliage conditions in Connecticut for 2017. I did a drive today around North Central and Northeastern Connecticut. The foliage color was fairly poor with a lot of brown color, or trees going from green to bare. I drove on Route 190 east to Route 32 Nor...

Re: Where is best after this Tuesday?

Your best bests are going to be the lower elevation areas in Vermont below about 1,500', above that the foliage will most likely be bare or past peak. A rather strong cold front in due to past through New England overnight with rain showers and winds from 25-40mph, which will strip away quite a lot ...

Re: Mt Greylock - Mohawk Trail 10/13/2017 - Poor Foliage Color

Loafer: thanks for this post. I'm sorry that you had a disappointing drive with your Dad. As I was leaving VT Monday, I took 7 down into CT and the NW hills were early in color and the trees were lush and healthy. Canaan Mtn. all the way from Canaan (route 44 and 7 intersection) to Norfolk on 44 lo...

Mt Greylock - Mohawk Trail 10/13/2017 - Poor Foliage Color

I did the drive to Mt Greylock today with my father. This was the first time we have done a foliage trip together (he is 82) and unfortunately the foliage colors where especially poor. I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, but these where some of the worst foliage colors I can recall in nearly 30 year...

Killington - Ludlow - Glebe Mtn 10-10-2017

I made another trip up to Killington today after my trip up on Saturday meet with bad weather. The rain/wind from yesterday did do some damage to the foliage and above 2,000' its already past peak. Re: So Mother Nature Has Thrown Us A Curve Ball...

The heatwave really cooked the foliage and it honestly just looks confused by the extreme temperature change over the last week. Local opinion (in the Mt Snow area) is that there will not be a last minute miracle on trees, but just a leaf loss from what we have now. It's disappointing to say the lea...

Mount Snow 10-2-2017

I did the drive up to Mount Snow yesterday to see how the fall foliage color is coming along. Most of what I saw indicated a poor foliage season with alot of bare trees, completely green oaks and brown foliage. The color change that has already occurred is 99% red with nearly no gold or yellow to be...

Peak Conditions At Jay Peak

I did a day trip up to Jay Peak yesterday and avoided the strong temptation to drive to the Killington region, which I have been to so many times before for foliage. I have never been to the Jay/Stowe area for fall foliage and it was well worth the trip. Routes traveled where: I-91, Route 5, Route 1...

Re: Another Warm September, Another Late Fall?

It looks like a major cool-down is in the forecast for New England. I just saw forecasts of low 60''s for St Johnsbury next week, which is below normal. It looks like frost/freeze temperatures may be possible as well.

Re: Another Warm September, Another Late Fall?

With the transition from El Nino to La Nina, temperatures in the Northeast are forecasted to be above normal through November. This was forecasted already last spring, when El Nino ended. We had a warm fall last year and it turned out to be a very good foliage season with extended fall color well in...

Re: The Leaves Are Starting to Change Here in Northern CT

I did the drive to Lake Mattawa today and the is some color change along Route 2 and the I-91 corridor. There where a few trees here and there nearly completely changed. It's getting to the point where it's not possible to keep an all green landscape in eye's view. The cooler weather next weekend sh...
