Re: Critique #12

I think there are some really great aspects to this image...quite wonderful...definitely wouldn't toss. I made a sample but couldn't upload attachment?!? I would crop a little over a 1/4 of the bottom off...just so it clips off the big bush. I did a bit of dodging and burning with loc. adjust brush....

Re: CRITIQUE #11

Andy - I think cropping out a lot of that sky is helpful...I would leave a bit more....I think there needs to be a bit more of the grayblue. Also, if I would just clone out the right barn and give a little more room to the left of the big barn if there is any in file...and that would make a fair ima...

Re: Lightroom 4 Beta Release - Free Trial Download

On first glance some of the changes in the Develop module are absolutely fantastic. The changes to the the tone panel...removing "fill light" and now having discreet zones is excellent. The most important aspect I think are now the adjustment brush and grad filter have ALL the capabilities as the ba...

Lightroom 4 Beta Release - Free Trial Download

Lightroom 4 Beta release is available for download at last link...and Michael Reichmann's Luminous Landscape blurb at first link. "Believe me – there are very few people, who once they have spent any time discovering the depth of Lightroom, turn their backs on it." M.R. http://www.luminous-landscape...

Rob. Rodriguez Jr./The Making of "Clear Water, Hudson River”

I met Robert Rodrquez Jr. this past fall at the photo expo in NYC at the Canson booth. He was repping Canson, and had some extraordinarily beautiful large prints of his work on display. I found out he lives a little ways down the Hudson river from where we live, and shoots frequently in the same reg...

Re: Critique #7

Al - I would have wanted a little more ground below the buildings at bottom - but there you go. Also, one thing that occured to me after I posted last was using the Graduated Filter tool in ACR/LR - to add a more pronounced "glow" to the lower portion image fading up into the night sky. For some rea...

Re: Critique #7

I.mo. whether the bush is there or not...really isn't consequential, because it's so small and basically "black" like the night sky...and what catches the eye are the illuminated buildings. 1. I would make sure you have a "fairly" equal amount of "dark space" on either side of the buildings. 2. AND ...

Re: Critique #6

Well, "it may, or may not" detract from the image...but that is a question to ask. Since Al's image is the subject of this thread...my first thought was at the base level this is very beautiful natural scene with a great shaped vibrant red Maple tree - great natural colors throughout among other thi...

Re: Critique #6

More to my point. I don't have any "issue" with any photo processing tool per se including HDR. I don't use it, and am not drawn to using it, but sometimes I see some images that are nice that use it. The digression on HDR points to the general structure of my critiques. That is, to ask a photograph...

Re: Critique #6

Al - haven't been able to get back til now. I saw the last image you posted - close to what i was thinking in terms of being bilatteraly symmetric.,...not quite though. Final thoughts...I like when you are able to see fully the plants around the Maple tree base...and the tree trunk comes up out of t...
