Final State Foliage Report for the 2020 Season

Even as this last chapter of another spectacular foliage season nears completion, the closing lines are yet to be written. Pockets of splendid color remain, particularly in southern areas of the state, while roadsides and village greens are still punctuated by standout trees in striking hues that be...

State foliage report for October 14th, 2020

Two words describe Vermont’s foliage this week: Beauty endures. Even as peak conditions begin to subside in much of the state, spectators will surely be struck by just how much color is hanging on. Broad hillsides continue to display an excellent range of reds, golds, and even still some green, whil...

Re: Foliage color in the NEK

Foliage season is coming to an end here in the NEK. I took this photo today of Lake Memphremagog looking north into Canada with the Owl's Head Ski mountain in the distance. In the foreground, you will see a river curving through a swamp area. This is where the Newport bike path crosses. One of the b...

State foliage report for Thursday, October 8th

Vermont is right in the heart of another storybook foliage season, with fall color now present in every part of the state as some regions move beyond peak, others come into peak, and still others are just beginning to see leaves changing. Western and southern areas and the Champlain and Connecticut ...

All foliage conditions are present across Vermont this week. Splashes and bursts of color have spread to whole hillsides painted in vibrant yellows, reds and oranges. Most of the state is well into the middle phases of the season, and many areas, including the northern Green Mountains and the Northe...

Re: Foliage color in the NEK

The color in the NEK is now past peak. The color has been stunning. I was on the Newport bike path today trying to outrun the big rain storm that was coming. The clouds were moving in, but out of the blue there was this image that I had to take with my Go Pro!

Re: Foliage color in the NEK

It's a cloudy day in the NEK...the color is still at peak and there has not been heavy rain yet or much leaf drop. I headed out to a great water fall spot at Coventry, just south of Newport. Despite the drought, the Coventry Falls are still working! coventry_falls.jpg See this in full screen and oth...

That's not unusual. As a reminder to everyone entering Vermont that there are now regulations governing visitors to Vermont.

State foliage report for September 25th, 2020

This week marks the official start of fall, and that feels right in sync with what we are experiencing on the ground. Early risers in many parts of Vermont have awakened to a moonlit silver sheen of frost on the ground, and cool and abundantly sunny days have made for perfect leaf peeping weather. F...

Re: Foliage color in the NEK

Foliage color in the NEK is near peak! I was on the bike path in Newport late this afternoon and saw these swamp maples "on fire" as they say. BTW, the cell tower

you see on the hill in the distance is in Canada.
While there, I saw this eagle? Can anyone identify it?

Cloudland - Woodstock area Sept 23

I was in Woodstock today and headed at once to Cloudland. This is THE location for the best foliage views in this area. Unfortunately I was a bit early, the color is about a week to 5 days behind the NEK. It was the same along the Ottaquechee river between Quechee and Woodstock...I took a few snaps ...
