Re: VT is open for business!

Good article, abby. A similar sentiment is expressed on David Middleton's blog.

Aerial Photography

One of the frustrations as a landscape photographer is when a great view is blocked by trees or other obstructions and you can't get enough elevation to get the shot. Ansel Adams' sometimes took photographs from a platform on top of his car to get around this problem. I came across this Vermont phot...

Re: foliage plans

Hi jolly, Would it be practical to rework the trip so that you go through Vermont first and then head to Acadia? Reason being that Acadia's foliage peaks later than Vermont's due to the moderating influence of the Atlantic. Others may disagree but I feel that your itinerary is about 3-5 days on the ...

Re: Irene - big damage expected

It really was sad to see the video of the covered bridge sweeping away, even though there are surely many worse things that happened. Hopefully all of the tourism-based businesses have enough time to recover for foliage season. I just sent in the rest of my lodging deposit this morning so I'll be th...

Re: Predictions of "How Good"?

WXMAN, I remember your posts last year were spot on about the weather. Can tropical storms cause significant leaf drop before September? I'd like to wait another week or two before beginning my annual weather-worrying. 8) Looks like Vermont, like much of the northeast, has recieved quite a bit of ra...

Re: NORTHERN VERMONT AND NORTH EAST VERMONT FOR FOLIAGE

There are also lots of nice cottages, cabins, and homes available for rent. The value you get I've found is pretty good compared to peak season rates at motels/B&B's. Homeaway and VRBO are good places to look as well as the scenes of vermont rental section http://vacationrentals.scenesofvermont.com/...

Re: NORTHERN VERMONT AND NORTH EAST VERMONT FOR FOLIAGE

I agree that there is no Stowe in the northeast kingdom, or anything close to that. However I think you should still go. I do think it has the best scenery in Vermont and I love the rural feel. The dining won't compare to Stowe but you can still eat well if you do research before heading up there. J...

Re: When to go....

Hey Andy! Yes I've been thinking about VT a lot this week -- trying to book a place. I think we're going to stay in a cottage in Craftsbury this year. If I had the chance to switch it for NorCal I'd probably take it though. :D

Re: When to go....

I think it was pwt that once suggested going the first week of October and staying near Route 2. That has worked well for me. I think a sweet spot is the Lyndonville/Danville/St Johnsbury area. From there it's easy to get to a lot of beautiful places -- Groton State Forest, Peacham, Lake Willoughby....

Nice shots Andy! This is the best set from your trip, I think. The first shot is a really nice composition. Too bad the lighting was dim or it could have been perfect. This one's my favorite. Very nicely framed and the color and light are very pretty. http://lightcentric.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/...

Andy,
It's the parkway or turnpike around these parts. Get it right. :)

ct,
Phil should get some nice views on his way down to Florida if he takes the Turnpike.

Speaking of surprising color, as of yesterday (before the big winds last night) the color in New Jersey was nicer than what I saw up in Vermont. It was a little early, but more bright reds and oranges than I ever remember around here (since I've been paying attention, at least). Of course, you're mo...

Carol, You have some really fantastic shots in there! You did a great job of finding the color this year. As someone else mentioned, you wouldn't have known it was a a tough year looking at your shots. I'm impressed with the job Picasa was able to do with the raw files. I guess Google does just abou...

Nice Al! I enjoyed these especially since I watched you snap several of them. I wondered what you were shooting at the May Pond, as I wasn't seeing any good compositions. But you found one there. I enjoyed the meet-up; maybe we can do it again next year.

Very nice shots Laura. I especially like the shot of the pond with the dark clouds. I love it when you have those dark clouds in the background, but with the sun breaking through to light up the foreground. That really creates dramatic lighting.
