Re: Where is best after this Tuesday?

Colors in my neck of the woods really started overnight last night. I remarked that it actually looks like fall this morning! If you are coming over the next 7 days or so try valley areas...My area should be good. South of Burlington and west of Route 116 to Lake Champlain. Silver Street-Monkton/Bri...

Re: The Peacham and New Hampshire Ride

Phil..I noticed the sun thing yesterday too. Driving into the sun the color looked better. In my observations in Hancock/Ripton yesterday it appears that semi good color is starting to emerge at mid - elevations.

Middlebury Gap 10/4/17

Went up and over Route 125 and back today between Middlebury and Hancock. Left East Middlebury to summer like foliage so I wasn't expecting much. By the time I got up to Ripton village some color started coming out. I was pleasantly surprised. It is no where near peak and in fact is still on the ear...

Re: Fall trip. Need help to fix my routes

I would reverse your trip. From Boston, head straight north to the Northeast Kingdom and northern NH. If you want to see Southern VT do that at the end of the trip. Color in Vermont progresses north to south...southern VT may still have early color at that point. Northern VT/NH should be good!

Re: Which place to visit and which place to stay during our travel

For those dates in VT (and NH) you will want to be in low lying valley areas. The mountain areas will have gone by by then. In VT, try the Champlain Valley south of Burlington. Basically south of Burlington, west of Route 116/7 to Rutland, then north of Route 4. Middlebury would be a good town to ma...

Re: Hinesburg/Bristol/Monkton/Shelburne/Charlotte etc....

I would say we are at peak now, maybe even a little slightly past. Weather Thursday/Friday does not look so hot so this afternoon/tomorrow may be the best day(s) up here.
Enjoy!

Hinesburg/Bristol/Monkton/Shelburne/Charlotte etc....

It is looking good here now. Peak in the next few days. If anyone is looking for somewhere to go the Champlain Valley would be a good bet this week. West of 116 (and 7 south of Middlebury), south of Burlington, north of Rutland/Route 4.
Hope some of you can get up here and enjoy!

Re: Minnesotaman - are you back in Vermont for the rest of the month?

If you make it to Hinesburg let me know. I am around in the afternoon. The eastern side of town up in the hills should have near peak/peak color. Western side of town is probably halfway to peak. Try Sherman Hollow Road, Texas Hill Road, and Lincoln hill Road in Hinesburg/Huntington. Another nice ro...

Willston-Hinesburg-Monkton-Bristol 10/11/16

Took a drive from Williston to Bristol today. Out of Williston I took 2A south to 116 south. Color is starting to come out real nice and is headed toward peak...maybe 50% there? I would guess that over the next week or so should be great. In Hinesburg I took Silver Street south to Monkton Ridge. Aga...

Re: Charlotte & Shelburne 10/9/2016

I would give it a couple more days. Maybe after the cold tonight the colors will really pop! Take the Charlotte/Essex ferry. Park your car on the VT side (there will be a small lot on your right just before you get to the ferry landing) Normally I would suggest having lunch in Essex but most places ...

Charlotte & Shelburne 10/9/2016

The color is really starting to come along now in the Champlain Valley just south of Burlington. I would say we are midway to peak and anytime over the next week or so should be great. Roads to take: Spear Street. Mt. Philo Road (and go to the top of Mt. Philo!). Lewis Creek Road , Roscoe Road, Prin...

Re: Middlebury-Castleton-Rutland-Middlebury Loop 10/8/16

Come to the area I described...its going to be great. The color is really starting to come along. Route 30 between Cornwall and Hubbardton was starting to really good. I'd suggest that and any/all backroads off 30. If you like lakes check out Lake Hortonia and visit Half Moon Pond State Park. Lake B...

When are you coming? Route 100 south through Waitsfield/Warren/Hancock/Rochester is a favorite of mine.

Middlebury-Castleton-Rutland-Middlebury Loop 10/8/16

Did a loop today out of Middlebury. Took Route 30 from Middlebury to the Hubbarton Battlefield to meet CT. Route 30 between Middlebury & Castleton is one of my favorite "main" roads in Vermont - it has a little of everything. Rolling hills, open mountain views, farm views, lakes, 2 nic...
