First Snow of the Season Is Upon Us in So. New England!

Well here we go! The snowflakes will be flying tomorrow across CT and this will be our first winter snowfall. A bit unexpected as they were predicting little or no snow. And with this season's late leaf drop, the yards are still covered with leaves and some of the trees are still partially covered i...

Re: 2017 Vermont/New Hampshire Photos

Janice: your photos are phenomenal! You really captured some amazing color despite it all and I loved your scenic and whimsical shots! Where were all the umbrellas taken? That was very cute! Just looking at your pictures brought out the best of last year's foliage season indeed. I'm going to take an...

STICK SEASON

Hello all: Hard to believe but we are just entering stick season in Connecticut in my area. NW and NE full out in sticks, but we are seriously hanging on still to some fully leafed out trees, and I mean GREEN trees, like summer. The ones that were starting to turn so late in the season, and were onc...

Re: Connecticut Foliage October 2017

Hi Janice: no wind in sight for the entire week and now I'm getting a tad nervous with this "system" coming in Sunday night on the heels of a VERY cold set up for the next five days! 30s for a high on Friday and Saturday with teens over the weekend at night. Time to get the fleece and wint...

Re: Foliage in Philly

triz: that's awesome! so glad for you to continue with your foliage seeking! We are still popping out some amazing colors here in my area with the trees starting to turn in so many places while some are peaking in oranges and reds! We are still about 60% in foliage with widespread green still! Norma...

Re: Connecticut Foliage October 2017

Oddly enough, in my surrounding area, we have huge expanses of green trees left where it still looks like summer, trees that are just about to burst into color, trees peaking with oranges and reds, and about 25% bare or becoming bare trees. This is the longest season I have ever encountered! Not com...

Re: Off Topic- Storm

Janice: thanks for the kind thoughts. We here in CT got a TON of rain again. The winds picked up about 10 p.m. and I awoke at 1 a.m. to quite a howling outside. The shoreline got hit the worst with mega power outages. A lot of trees down because they were fully leafed out and soggy! But surprisingly...

Re: Connecticut Foliage October 2017

Well happy driving up there. Heading first to Granby (Lost Acres Road) and then I'm back to the Cornwalls and New Preston and possibly Lake Waramaug, maybe route 7 to Kent and Salisbury or Sharon. Tomorrow is going to be a gorgeous fall day for back road driving. I may take Bulls Bridge Road home to...

Re: Connecticut Foliage October 2017

We got buckets of rain here last night but thankfully, the trees held on to most of their leaves around my area as they are just turning or still green! Even the ones that peaked are still almost full and beautiful. The wind was not as terrible as predicted and that probably was a contributing facto...

Re: What gives????

Hi Bob! Glad to hear you rebooked for the same weekend! Did you do any fun things while you were up there? BTW, how are things in Woodbury for color this week? I may take a drive to Lake Waramaug Sunday, if I don't do the Coventry Farmers Market, and some back roads into Southbury, Roxbury and Bridg...

Re: Connecticut Foliage October 2017

loafer: meant to get back to your post after my action packed weekend but I am still recuperating. I returned to the NW corner and found a lot of gorgeous, emerging colors and peak colors in many towns but it was intermittent and not widespread. I took 20 over the top of the CT border and ye...

Dorset Farmers Market, Dorset VT

https://www.dorsetfarmersmarket.com/ Hello all! During my wonderful stay in Manchester this past foliage vacation, I had the opportunity to finally visit the top notch Dorset Farmer's Market (after my 3rd trip to the Dorset Quarry). What a fantastic organization and the most wonderful booths featuri...

Re: Connecticut Foliage October 2017

loafer: If you get to Mohawk Mtn. (I think there is also a festival this weekend!) I have a great route for you to follow. Drive the West Cornwall Road (off of 128 and route 7) for quite a distance. It's a beautiful winding road through farms and past the National Audubon Society where there are bea...
