Fall is just around the corner! Mother Nature's autumn tease this weekend in the northeast! Vermont is waiting for you!

Wow! Woke up to 50's this morning with the windows open all night! What a nice early blast of cool air this whole weekend to remind us of what is about to unfold in just a few weeks. The excitement is building despite the fact that we have had quite the summer of relentless heat and heat wav...

Another bluebird day on the Bluebird Express, Mt. Snow and hike around summit 7/23/22

I've been trekking up to Vermont quite a bit lately! And the Bluebird Express on Mt. Snow did not disappoint! What a gorgeous day to take the express up and hike around the summit. The 360 views were awash with blue skies, white puffy clouds and breezy conditions once again, not to mention 100% visi...

Another great hiking trek to Vermont today, 7/16, the new Missing Links Trail in Dummerston!

Hello SOV'ers! Just got back from another great hike with a wow payoff view at the Haydock Vista! To start the day, we somehow missed the correct exit off 91 to get to our trailhead, thus ending up on a series of endless, rural back dirt roads which proved to be quite interesting! Complete...

Re: Fall 2022

Hello Gator and Colorado Mom! Oh my! It's been months since I've posted on the forum! I've been inundated with five house remodeling/upgrading projects and I think I've bitten off more than I can chew! I'm so excited for autumn in Vermont but this year it will be more about my hiking excursi...

Ramping up the VT hiking scene this summer, stellar 4th of July weekend in Woodstock on the Faulkner Trail to Mt. Tom!

Happy 4th to our SOV foliage fanatics! Woodstock was absolutely gorgeous Sunday, July 3rd. The weather was picture perfect, in the 70s with a steady breeze, blue bird skies and white puffy clouds (and no bugs)! Can you say “blissful”? Headed up early morning from northern CT to Faulkner Park to hike...

Hi Gator! Nice to see you back here on the forum. I'm so excited for autumn in Vermont too! Our trees are pushing buds quickly now and soon we will be fully leafed out. Where do you stay in Vermont? I'm currently planning all my hiking trips starting late June. Not to fast forward our beautiful spri...

Hiking in Dorset Vermont! Excellent Website!

https://dorsetvt.org/hike.html Now that I've fallen in love with the town of Dorset, I've discovered this great website for hiking in the area. There are so many hikes it is amazing. Since I've entered the hiking phase/passion of my life, I am planning to try a few on a couple of daytrips. The one t...

Re: Overnight Color Explosion in Northern CT! Good Things Come to Those Who Wait!

Hi Colorado Mom, nice to see you back here. I have a lot of favorites :D but I do love the Waitsfield/Warren area. If I were to chose an ultimate favorite, it would be Peacham. Are you going to try to get up to these two places at all next fall? Also, if I were to buy my second home in Vermont, it t...

Re: Overnight Color Explosion in Northern CT! Good Things Come to Those Who Wait!

Hi Bob, glad you had a nice time in Vermont. Did you mean the West Hill House? That is where I stayed a couple of years ago in Warren. 4 star accommodations! I agree with you about the hiking spot. :D It is certainly a must do as you said. We hiked that land trust called Mine Hill Preserve and it wa...

Re: Overnight Color Explosion in Northern CT! Good Things Come to Those Who Wait!

Another peak foliage drive today through some towns west of 84 and south of Washington Depot. Just amazing colors in the towns of Roxbury and Southbury. The most memorable road, one we have never taken before which will certainly be a repeater next year, Old Roxbury Road. The dirt road was so narrow...

Re: Connecticut Fall Foliage 2021

Kevin, we took a drive to Storrs UCONN campus for lunch yesterday and the color was really coming on strong especially in Tolland and Rockville. Heading west it got even better. So I am optimistic we are heading into a great but delayed season (maybe 10 days later than normal) here in CT. Get back o...

Overnight Color Explosion in Northern CT! Good Things Come to Those Who Wait!

Well oh my! The cold last night along with light rain popped the colors out here in force and I couldn't believe my drive today. Simsbury, Avon, Canton - all peak or approaching peak. Avon Mountain traveling west to east on Nod Road with low fog took my breath away. I've never seen Avon Moun...

Re: Sparkling Autumn Day! Lovin' Me Some More Vermont! 10/17/21 Manchester, Dorset, Pownal! (and more back roads)!

Hi Aziz! It just takes a day or two for things to morph into past peak. Sorry you missed it. Did you check those loops in Dorset in the Hollows? Jiminy Peak was beautiful when we went through and only mid stage. We found that on a cloudy day the colors actually looked more vibrant. Keep trying! Don'...
