Re: Tamarack Trees

Hi Ed: not sure if you would like to use this resource but they list all the county foresters in VT. I have used them in the past in different locations and they are incredibly helpful and on the spot with loads of information (i.e. when I went into Lewis Pond and needed updates on the road conditio...

Re: Past Peak in VT Still Beautiful To Me! Day Trip 10/25 SoVT

hi triz: forgot to mention, we took route 121 out of Grafton and followed the Saxtons River through Cambridgeport to 91. It was beautiful, maybe a bit past peak. We tried to go back a different way to change things up a bit...…………

Re: My Vermont "Bucket List" is Growing!!!

Ugh, I could kick myself. I just looked at my bucket list and lo and behold, not one of my 12 listed did I complete. :( Either I was too busy chasing the color or there were some inclement days in the 2 week trip. The day Phil and I were supposed to go to the State House for a tour, we decided at th...

Re: Past Peak in VT Still Beautiful To Me! Day Trip 10/25 SoVT

We had quite a mixed bag! Snow on the mountain, stick season, past peak, peak and also green with emerging colors! I was mostly surprised to see hillsides in green at the VT border. I'm curious as to how and when the season will come to a halt with the late transitions not only in VT, but in souther...

Re: Poconos Foliage - October 28th

Hi triz: you really did get some nice color. My favorite was the shot of Jim Thorpe town. I like the wall of color and the cars and folks moving about. And the clock tower! Glad you had a very nice day! I hope to get to the Poconos some year, it is so close to me as well. I'm still chasing color her...

Re: Enfield - Glastonbury - Somers 10/25 - 10/28/18

Hi Loafer, thanks for the report. We are in peak here and the sugar maples are insane around Avon Mountain and Simsbury and Canton. The rain didn't do much damage! Many trees are glistening in their fall finest, I just can't believe how late it is! The color seemed to come out of nowhere! CT

Past Peak in VT Still Beautiful To Me! Day Trip 10/25 SoVT

Hello to all on the foliage forum! I had a business transaction to take care of in Chester this past Friday and what a gorgeous, sunshiny day in Vermont! We left CT in heavy clouds and were surprised to see the cloud bank disappear as we approached the state line area. Glorious peak color all the wa...

Re: Enfield - Glastonbury - Somers 10/25/18

Hi Loafer, thanks for the updates. There is still so much green here but the trees coming out are brilliant. The NW corner was mostly gone when we spent the day up there Monday. We hiked to the top of the tower at Haystack Mountain in Norfolk, looked around at the valley and saw a real mixed bag. Pa...

Hi Prabal: thank you for posting your fall photos. I'm glad you got to see some color on your trip. If you were on 183 you passed by the Norman Rockwell Museum, hope you went inside! See you next year here on the forum! CT

Re: Visitor from California - help needed to time foliage viewing for Southern VT

If you are in the extreme northwest corner of CT, I would try Canaan, Salisbury, Lakeville, Colebrook and route 22 around Millerton and Armenia NY. The twin lakes in Salisbury should be nice and route 44 in Canaan has mountains on the south side as you are traveling towards East Canaan that should h...

Also, some trees may be decimated by insects in certain locations and the tree's color will be absent or variegated. Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) has been relentless this year unfortunately for example...………...

Re: Enfield, CT - Color change rapidly occuring

Hi Triz: I found a nice link on our CT DEEP site. It is the type of tree that will determine its color. Also, variations will occur within the species due to soil changes, climate changes, location of the tree in the natural environment, etc. Many factors do come into play, some reds may be muted du...

Re: Enfield, CT - Color change rapidly occuring

Hey loafer, glad you deferred judgment on the foliage here! We still have green with little leaf drop and color emerging every day. I traveled around North Canton and Simsbury and West Avon today. The color is still early but coming on strong with a lot of reds and golds, less orange for some reason...
