Happy New Year Scenes of Vermont Foliage Friends! May this post find you and your loved ones safe and healthy. What a year this has been! I'm not sure I'll ever have the right words to describe 2020, but for me, it felt like the world came to a standstill, sort of like the twilight zone? It's been t...

Magnificent Late Autumn Weather Unfolds in the Northeast!
Hello SOV Fall Foliage Friends! The weather the past few days, with more to come, could not be more stellar than what we are experiencing here in New England! In northern CT, we have been blessed with mid 70s for almost a week with 77 yesterday and 77 also forecast for today. The nights are cool and...

I'm already looking forward to our tours next fall so make sure Bogey, your partner in crime, makes it this time! He really missed a very stellar day with perfect conditions! I was hiking in Roxbury yesterda...

Re: Connecticut (CT) and New Hampshire (calguy) on the backroads of NW CT!!!! Thursday, 10-22
ooops! I forgot to add that we first stopped at Penwood State Forest on route 185 in Bloomfield when we saw tree tunnels of yellow into the forest pathways. The pond looked like it had excellent reflections but it was all wire fenced in and it looked recent! We also stopped at a very old cemetery in...

Connecticut (CT) and New Hampshire (calguy) on the backroads of NW CT!!!! Thursday, 10-22
Hello SOV Fall Foliage Friends!!!! On a glorious fall day we started our foliage adventure with peak color in Simsbury and North Canton. Our first stop for photos was at my favorite red barn in North Canton; it is overlooking a beautiful hillside with a couple of outbuildings and a pond. This is the...

Re: South/Central Massachusetts - Quabbin Reservoir
Hi Kevin, thanks for these photos. I don't know anything about the Oxbow so had to google the location. Why have I never heard of this? Can you tell me alittle more about your experience there and the best time to see it? Summer ok too. I traveled ALL around the Quabbin with Ed McGuirk from this for...

Thanks for all the pics Kevin. It is really appreciated! Just finished an 8 hour tour of the NW and Western sections of CT with Calguy from NH from this forum. I am so tired I will write a report up tomorrow. After the rains next week, the area will be approaching past peak and sticks. I'm glad we t...

Re: Barkhamsted Reservoir - N. Connecticut 10-22-20
Kevin, I was just there this morning early and we (NH Calguy from this forum who drove down here at 6 a.m.) found great reflections on the still waters on 219 South of the construction about 2 miles. There are two pullouts on the west side of the road with a small landing bridge to stand on. I actua...

Kevin, you are exactly correct in your observations. wtnh website had a photo of the gradients of drought in CT. NE CT had 1/2 the pockets in red zone for extreme drought while the bars of drought got considerably lighter as you headed west. NW CT got all the rains this summer and early fall as well...

Re: Connecticut Fall Foliage 2020
Kevin, I think you should be fine. That's around when I am going to Essex. If there are rounds of rain and wind in the next 2 weeks, I won't head to the CT shoreline. It's really a wait and see. CT

If anyone is interested in hikes with 360 views in our peak areas, I would recommend Haystack Mountain in Norfolk on route 272 - the views from the stone tower of the Canaan Valley below is outstanding as well as views into 3 states (on a clear day). You can go to Campbell Falls just up the road a p...

Re: Connecticut Fall Foliage 2020
Kevin, Thursday is supposed to be 75 and blue skies. No rain or wind to blow off the precious leaves so fill up that gas tank! Hope you can get back out to the western areas and you'll be surprised how far along Barkhamsted is. Is Ashford, Tolland and the areas around UCONN that bland this ye...
