Re: Where to go to see peak foliage the weekend of 10/12

I was up in northwest VT yesterday. St. Albans, Georgia, and Milton foliage was still early. Heading east to Fairfield, Cambridge, Montgomery, and Hazen's Notch shows awesome colors. My home area of Johnson and Morrisville still show wonderful colors. It should still be good for this weekend. I don'...

Foliage Tour 2019

Yesterday, Oct 1, was Foliage Tour Day with Ctyankee and friends. It was a bad day for foliage viewing for long range views. So we stuck to the back roads. There was color all over, but it was hard to tell just how good it was. We started In Peacham. It was nice and peaceful, but that will change th...

Re: Newbie in search of Vermont foliage view

No need to change your plans. The winds didn't get that strong. The foliage should still be strong enough to handle the winds. Just don't run over the moose. They get annoyed when that happens.

Re: Foliage - Hartford to Ottawa

I agree with loafer89. Southeast VT and western VT would have the best color. Lake Champlain affects the climate in western Vt, making a warmer climate. Foliage is about a week later than interior VT.

Re: Barns?

There is a round barn on route 12 between Morrisville and Elmore, VT. If you do the farm near Molly's Pond, continue riding the Mack Mountain RD to Peacham and wander around the back roads in Peacham and Barnet. There are some good farms there.

The west section of the Kanc, between Lincoln and the top of the pass looked good last Wednesday. The east section down to Conway was very early.

Re: Foliage in Quechee

Oct 5th may be early for peak foliage, but there will be color. Head west and north for better color. East of Quechee is in the Connecticut River Valley. It has a warmer climate and will peak later than the mountain areas to the west.

Foliage Report

Well, I've finally had time to check the foliage this week. My brother and I took a tour of the Northeast Kingdom on Sunday. Route 100 from Stowe up to Lowell were a little early but the stressed trees along the road and in the wet spots looked terrific. Route 58 east to Westmore looked about the sa...

Northeast VT is ready for you

This was not a good day for foliage viewing. Low clouds and high fog made difficult to judge the foliage at a distance. Up close, the foliage was popping. Foliage started impressing us from route US 2 in Plainfield and all over the NEK except for the St. Johnsbury/ Lyndonville area. This area usuall...

Re: Two Must See Ponds in the NEK! 10/3

Job's Pond is a unique little pond. It's only about 5 acres and has a hill in the background. The lower part of the hill is hardwood forest with a lot of maple trees with their red and orange leaves. The top of the hill is ledge. To get there you need to take route 114 south of Island Pond and then ...

Re: Which weekend for Woodstock to Waitsfield?

Foliage north of route US 302 and east of route 100 should be great this weekend. The weather for Friday and Saturday will also be good. Sunday not so good. You would be taking a chance on next weekend's weather.

Re: Just Arrived in Bennington. Where should we head for Foilage thru Thurs?

I drove the roads in northeastern VT last Thursday and there was little color on the main roads like 114, US 5 and 105. But the 2 back roads I took as shortcuts had color from the trees next to the road. The South Wheelock/Stannard Mountain road between Lyndonville and Greensboro Bend had brilliant ...

Re: Northeast Kingdom Destinations

Because of personal responsibilities, I can't get out and drive around like I use to. After reading a post by Wentworth I made time yesterday and drove around the NE Kingdom and he was right. Color change is behind schedule. The change has happened, but there is only hints of color. I think your sch...

Re: Vermont (Stowe) and NH (White Mt and Suger hill) 5th Oct OR 13th Oct?

I'm assuming you are staying in Woodstock, VT and not Woodstock, NH. First I would drive route US 4 west to route 100 North in Mendon, VT. ( NOT route 100 south in Bridgewater, VT.) Drive route 100 north to Warren, VT. Look for Main Street on the right side. Drive Main St. until you see a covered br...

Re: CT to Quebec with a stop in VT- Best foliage route?

Colors on route US 5 may not be good from Brattleboro north to White River Jct. Keep driving up I-91 until the colors look good and get off onto US 5. US 5 from exit 12 in Norwich, VT to St. Johnsbury is a nice ride. US 5 from St. Johnsbury to Lyndonville is not that great a ride. Take I-91 just sou...
