Northeast VT is ready for you
This was not a good day for foliage viewing. Low clouds and high fog made difficult to judge the foliage at a distance. Up close, the foliage was popping. Foliage started impressing us from route US 2 in Plainfield and all over the NEK except for the St. Johnsbury/ Lyndonville area. This area usuall...

Re: Two Must See Ponds in the NEK! 10/3
Job's Pond is a unique little pond. It's only about 5 acres and has a hill in the background. The lower part of the hill is hardwood forest with a lot of maple trees with their red and orange leaves. The top of the hill is ledge. To get there you need to take route 114 south of Island Pond and then ...

Re: Which weekend for Woodstock to Waitsfield?
Foliage north of route US 302 and east of route 100 should be great this weekend. The weather for Friday and Saturday will also be good. Sunday not so good. You would be taking a chance on next weekend's weather.

Re: Just Arrived in Bennington. Where should we head for Foilage thru Thurs?
I drove the roads in northeastern VT last Thursday and there was little color on the main roads like 114, US 5 and 105. But the 2 back roads I took as shortcuts had color from the trees next to the road. The South Wheelock/Stannard Mountain road between Lyndonville and Greensboro Bend had brilliant ...

Re: Northeast Kingdom Destinations
Because of personal responsibilities, I can't get out and drive around like I use to. After reading a post by Wentworth I made time yesterday and drove around the NE Kingdom and he was right. Color change is behind schedule. The change has happened, but there is only hints of color. I think your sch...

Re: Vermont (Stowe) and NH (White Mt and Suger hill) 5th Oct OR 13th Oct?
I'm assuming you are staying in Woodstock, VT and not Woodstock, NH. First I would drive route US 4 west to route 100 North in Mendon, VT. ( NOT route 100 south in Bridgewater, VT.) Drive route 100 north to Warren, VT. Look for Main Street on the right side. Drive Main St. until you see a covered br...

Colors on route US 5 may not be good from Brattleboro north to White River Jct. Keep driving up I-91 until the colors look good and get off onto US 5. US 5 from exit 12 in Norwich, VT to St. Johnsbury is a nice ride. US 5 from St. Johnsbury to Lyndonville is not that great a ride. Take I-91 just sou...

Re: Seeking route suggestions from Portsmouth, NH to Stowe, VT on 10/8
Rt 112(Kancamagus Hwy) goes from route 302 in Conway, NH west to route 302 in Bath, NH. If you want to do the whole road, the quickest way to the road is to take I-95 north to Portland, Maine and take route 302 west to Conway, NH. This will be an all day trip ! If you want a shorter drive, then use ...

Re: Upstate NY to Franconia NH with stop in vt
Route 15 from Morrisville, VT east to US 2 in West Danville should have better color at that time.
Darling Hill Road is a great ride. You should also do route 5A out of West Burke up to Lake Willoughby. It's worth the trip.

Re: Upstate NY to Franconia NH with stop in vt
Best color in the Bennington area will be in the mountains. Route 100 from route 9 in Wilmington north to Stowe is your best bet. There are 2 main routes to get to the East Burke area from route 100. The first is route US 2 in Waterbury. When you get to US 2 in Waterbury, turn right and drive US 2 e...

No, don't change your date. I live near Stowe and the colors are starting now. Foliage season is running normal. When someone mentions Sugar Hill, NH I start dreaming about Polly's Pancake Parlor.

Re: CT to Quebec with a stop in VT- Best foliage route?
It looks like you are heading to Quebec City. I'm assuming you are driving I-91 to Canada. That goes through Northeast VT which should have great foliage at that time. But lodging is scarce up there, and with foliage season in full mode, it could be hard to find a room. St. Johnsbury and Newport are...

Re: Early Signs of Fall..........
I've been seeing changes in the foliage the last few days. The bright green leaves of summer are looking dull and the stressed trees are turning color. These trees are damaged, diseased or in bad soil and always turn early. What color I'm seeing looks good. We are in a moderate drought up here in no...

Re: Need help: VT/NH trip OCT 14 to 19
After looking at the photos in this forum, I think Peacham will still be nice. But I think Woodstock, Vermont and south of there would be better. The Woodstock, New Hampshire area may be alright in the lowlands, but the highlands may be gone by. I would work south of there. The leaves are hanging on...

Re: Green Mountains and Peacham areas - October 15-18
This has been a weird foliage season so it's hard to predict how the foliage will be. The foliage should still be good in Peacham early in your vacation so do that first. After that I would wander around from Killington and south of there. Woodstock should be okay also. The key to the foliage in the...
